Is Mamba and Steel Force the same as Magnum Xl?

Is Mamba and Steel Force the same as Magnum Xl 200? Other then the color, I've notice they have the same height and track length. Whats the main diffrences?

Compare their layouts; Magnum, Steel Force & Mamba (Can't find this one's layout.)

As you can see, SF & Mamba are quite similar & both designed by Morgan. Magnum is the odd one out, designed by Arrow & with an unique Pretzel turnaround.

Ah....but all 3 are engineered by Steve Okomoto.

I havent ridden Mamba, but Steel force didn't have the "ejection" that Magnum has.

Also I forgot Wild thing.

Speaking of which, did you know that Okomoto no longer works for Morgan (now Chance-Morgan)? Anyone know where he went?

"As far as I can tell it doesn't matter who you are. If you can believe, there's something worth fighting for..." - Garbage, "Parade"

I think the main difference is that Morgan has 2 or 3 large hills after the drop, and Arrow doesnt have thaton Magnum, or the Big One. I dont know about desperado.
I was really quite unimpressed with SF...perhaps I was too hyped about my first Morgan and all, but I got a ride near the back and didn't really leave my seat.  Overall, I'd take Maggie.  That being said, Dorney has enough great rides so I'll give SF another try (next time, the front) and see if it isn't any better.  The ride LOOKS like airtime supreme with the shape of those hills...

I've enjoyed the all the Morgan Hypercoasters better than Magnum.

Current favorite coasters:
Wooden: 1) Beast 2) Raven 3) Son of Beast 4) The Boss 5) Timber Wolf
Steel: 1) Raging Bull 2) Millennium Force 3) V2 4) Wild Thing 5) Mr. Freeze

I really enjoy Steel Force.  The first camelback doesn't offer the airtime you think it would, but the turnaround is insanely fast, and the final speed hills are quite intense, especially if the mid-course brakes are on lightly.
I had mixed feelings with Steel Force. The ride is very smooth with an intense helix...However, the camelbacks/bunny hops werent as forceful as the Magnum's. Both rides are similar, in a way... I havent ridden the Mamba, yet.

Dayuum, Your HOT!
I have not been on Mamba but I loved both Steel Force and Magnum for different reasons. Steel Force for the ongoing speed and smooth hills, Magnum for the incredible view and the intense airtime.

Gravity is your friend! Think about how boring riding a coaster would be in Zero-G. LIM's would be required.

If you liked Steel force, you ought to love Mamba, as it is an improved design of Steel Force of sorts for a little bit more intense ride.

Mamba; The inspiration for SD2K. It doesnt get much better than that. Come to the Midwest;and ride the most underrated coaster in the U.S.
Interesting tidbit regarding Okomoto.  That explains why Magnum seemed so familiar to Steel Dragon.  I didn't know he left Morgan.  Anyone know who he'll design for next?

Hmmmmm. i had no idea that Okomoto is no longer with Morgan...

Perhaps he decided to retire...Steel Dragon and Phantoms Revenge would have been great rides to end his career on.

I don't think he would retire. Wasn't he the guy sitting with Dana Morgan in SD2K in "Making of a coaster"? He looked like he enjoyed designing coasters (and didn't look old at all).

I pray that I will never see a Six Flags Conneaut Lake

Was Magnum not designed by Ron Toomer???

Desperado has a turnaroud/curving hill right after the first drop, followed by the only airtime hill in the entire ride.  I lked the first drop and the helix inside the mountain, but airtime left much to be desired.  Kind of like Goliath, good ride, but not enough airtime hills.

My wife and I have rode all three of these coasters (SF, Mamba, and Magum)this past summer.

CP is our homepark so, we have rode Magnum a lot and I like it the least although Magnum has the best setting. Back to the question.

All of the rides have airtime Magnum has the most consistent airtime all of the bunny hops have it. Steel Force's airtime isn't as noticeable. The rider gets a floating feeling not the "thrown out of your seat" feeling that we love. Mamba has airtime like MF. On the second hill the rider is against the restraint until the valley. The bunny hops are a little more agressive than SF but nothing like the pain of Magnum's ejector seat.

Helix:  Magnum nope, BTW a ride isn't complete without a Helix (IMO) Steel force has a fast helix on the hillside very cool. Mamba has the best helix low to the ground very fast with head choppers.

The Morgan trains are very comfortable with a retracting seatbelt which is a very very nice feature. The arrow trains are comfortable if your a child, a short skinny child. :)

Born to Ride - Forced to work!

Well, Toomer could have taken his pipe cleaners, and bent out a design to what he thought it would look like, but Steve Okomoto did most of the engineering in making it "work".
Plus, Toomer was the president of Arrow at the time.

I wonder if it would add life to the trains on Maggie if they made the upstops larger and tighten up the space between rail and wheel so you don't get as much "bang" on the rabbit hops.

I prefer Magnum to Wild Thing due to the view, however if both coasters had the same view I think I'd go with Wild Thing.  Nothing against Maggie its just that I like floating air to the quick ejection that Maggie features.
