I went to sfmm yesterday. I started going on all the big rides first. Later on I was thinking of going on Collosus, I have never been on a wooden coaster ever before, I heard many people saying it was great. When I finally went on Collosus, it started out normal. The train started to gain speed and then it did a huge jerk to the right, I really hated that. It took forever to get up to the lift hill and finally a drop. It was really rough I could hear the clickity clank as I went down. It did a few more rough bunny hops and then another huge jerk to the right, after that some extra drops and then to the station. That was one of the worst rides I have ever been on. I dont' really understand why people like Collosus. Is it really that rough?
Did you ride the Psyclone? Roughness is relative! Some coasters moreso than others. For example, the Santa Cruz Giant Dipper isn't too bad. And Ghostrider, although intense, isn't too bad either.

Forget about it. It can't be THAT bad!
When I last rode Colossus it felt like it had square wheels. With some TLC I think it would be great again, but it's sadly nothing compared to what it used to be. (Especially when it had good old PTC trains on it)

I guess something's to be said for Morgan trains... They should stick to steel coasters, not woodie trains...

Mindbender...Can you hear the Riddler chuckling?
Colossus is an average coaster. It's not that rough, IMO, it's also not all that great. I have never heard someone complain about Colossus being overly rough, however. Even the smoothest of the smooth woodies are rather bumpy when you think about it.

wood coasters are bumpy, there also THE BEST. I hate it when people go oooh bumpy ahh! boo hoo! that is why wood coasters rule. alot of steel coasters are pansy! you dont even feel like your on a track. some steel are good sfne superman, but doesnt even get CLOSE to the exitment that cyclone gives you across the way.
and im 15, i havent been hypnotized by the so called big bad steelies.
As much as I am certain that there is an acceptable amount of roughness for any coaster, colossus is fairly rough. I was at the mountain last week, and found it to be not that great of a ride, though I went on it 3 times. It was a little too bumpy, and yes I do agree about those square wheels. It has too many brakes, and doesn't ever race. If they smoothed it out a bit, got rid of a few brakes and made it race it would be a real highlight at Magic Mountain.
By the way, Psyclone was awesome! It was probably less rough than colossus. It had a few jolts to it, but overall was a great ride. What a cool layout! My second favorite woodie, beat only by Ghostrider!!

Too many brakes? Where? There is the mid-course and the final brake run. I am not aware of any trims. There are anti-roll-backs, but I don't think any trims. Correct me if I am wrong.

Way back when that name fit that coaster perfect. However in recent years they've killed that ride. Now I have the desire to ride it only once a year when I go to MM. Its a real shame what happens to some coasters.
NO it isn't that rough, American Eagle is !!!!!!

....Ha Ha.....Ha.......ok I'm done

Colossus is not that rough to me. It's only really rough near the back. Psyclone is rough and slow, but I haven't ridden it since it was referbished.
Colossus is very fun but rough, yes :)

Never found Colossus rough, just boring! Although it used to be great!

Within the first couple of years after it's opening Colossus became VERY rough. A number of years back the track was relayered with the bottom half replaced with steel I beams. This is how it is now.
I don't think Collosus is rough, I was on it yesterday. I had more fun this year on it then I did last year. Psyclone on the other hand is the to damn rough. Me and my friend bumped hits on that ride. Thats how rough the ride is, I was getting thrown all over the place.
Opps me and my friend bumped heads on that ride. LOL
I was going to go on Collosus when I was at the mtn. but the line was 4 hours long! The only reason I can see for that is that fright fest was going on.

It was great in the days before this latest "golden age" of coasters. It's still a beautiful piece of work. Too bad they got rid of the PTC trains. I really liked riding backwards.
And it's not boring! Just old school.
