Is Cedar Fair against theming?

Joe E., propers. I love when people improve upon my jokes. :)

And yeah... sarcasm abound. I've been trying to reduce the number of ;)s in my posts, since they (apparently) annoy some people. But now, it seems, the lack of winkeys is confusing people! I guess you can't please all the people all the time, huh?

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Like what has been pointed out in previous threads on this subject, when the Munger era at CP began it was determined that theming offered no real return on investment. If it didn't add to the generation of revenue then it was a waste of money. Quite frankly I'm surprised that the Frontier Trail and Frontiertown still exist.
I just want to know what problems you all have with Disaster Transport?! It's a great little ride! Smooth, quick, unpredictable, dark, and overall just a fun little ride. Of course it isn't the biggest or fastest ride at Cedar Point, but its originality is a true winner...

Millennium Force: The Future's Riding On It

Theming is important to me only if the park decides to do it. I'll take a cool station with with futuristic music, or I'll take an elaborately thought out theme as well. Whatever you do, do it well. That's all I ask.

I'd like a tall CCI out and back, and a grande nonfat Latte to go please!
MillenniumForce04, I agree with you completely. It's a great ride, and bobsled coasters in and of themselves are quite unique. It's not the ride's fault that the effects aren't kept up to snuff. But yes, it is themed, in effect. And so is the CP&LE RR, and the Paddleboat Cruise, more or less.

Aw, c'mon guys. You know I'm just messing with you! I actually think Disaster Transport is a fun ride, and I'll probably ride it every time I go to Cedar Point.

It was a joke about how CP has let the theming go to pot. All in good fun!

(Winks at Lynch) Ya, I know. But the theming has gone to wherever you want to put it! But in regards to the original question, it definately is an example of theming, at least at Cedar Point. Anyone willing to talk about the other Cedar Fair parks? I haven't been to others, myself.

I'm sorry, but themeing makes alot of rides. MGM's Tower of Tower would be just another drop ride without the whole hotel theme....

Actually, I prefered CP's theming to Paramount's re-theming. Grrrrrrrr!

Yeeee Haaawwww!
Dorney didn't seem to have any "themed" rides or "themed" areas, but I will say they did a fantastic job with Talon's landscaping. I mean, it's beautiful! Same with Millennium Force. I went about two months after it opened, and the thing looked like it had been there for years. Apparently, it looked like that on opening day!

They might not do theming, but they can still make a park look beautiful.

I defently love Disaster Transport at Cedar Point. It is one of my favorites out there. I like seeing the lights going up and down the 1st lift plus I aslo like the dark and sound effects and different types of theming through out the ride even the station looks realy cool. Did you know they spent over 1 million dollors past years on Disaster Transport?

Inverted coaster coming soon to Valleyfair!

I think that a park that does themeing has to be committed to keeping the themeing operating properly and CP has not shown the ability to do that. Look at Disaster and the effects on Magnum to see examples of that.

If I am not mistaken I think there is just one guy who handles the special effects in the Planning and Design department. I wish CP would just not theme at all if they are not going to keep it fresh.
Theming adds to the total park experience. Its nice to feel you are somewhere else, or in another era. But if it's gonna be done, it needs to be done RIGHT and maintained (SFGrAm's Southwest Territory is and excellent example of theming. Paramount is an excellent example of how to DESTROY theming).

CP is weak at theming except frontiertown. Most of the park feels like an old general amusement park. They have lots of rides, and that keeps their attendance where they want it, so they dont spend money on theming.
