IOA, a waste of money?

Is it just me or does IOA need to lower their prices! They only have 3 big coasters and 2 kiddie ones! 45$ is too much! It would be worth it if there were more coasters, although the ones they have are excellent and well themed, but I haven't heard any news about upcoming plans!

I agree, their price is too high. When we went to Florida over Christmas break we weren't sure we wanted to go to IOA at all because the price is so high. I wouldn't say it's a waste of money because any park with Dueling Dragons is worth the money IMO, but it's almost out of range for us common folks.

Nice top coaster choices! I put the SoB ahead of the Beast by a little and Mantis right there with MF, but it's nice to see the Beast getting some well-deserved recognition.
WHAT? A waste of money? C'mon! I'd much rather pay the $45.00 to go to IOA and experience all their WORLD-CLASS ATTRACTIONS, then pay $38.00 to go to a park with 10+ coasters, more than half of which are mediocre at best.

It's NOT quantity people, it's QUALITY!

It's just that they need some variety and they really need some airtime!

Ummm, last time I check, Islands of Adventure is a THEME park not an amusementpark. Its hardly a waste of money, IMO.

If all you enjoy is rollercoasters, maybe, despite the fact that the three major coasters at IOA are three of the world's best.

But you're also getting with your admission:
The most amazing dark ride in existance (Spiderman)
One of the best flume rides (Dudley Do Right)
One of the best raft rides (Popeye)
Seuss Island
An S&S tower (Fearfall)
A dinosaur themed boat ride (Jurassic Park)
Creative flat rides (1 fish 2 fish, Storm force, etc)...
Some shows (Sinbad, Poseidon, etc...)

There's easily a day's worth of activities in this park, it's not like a traditional park with 2 coasters and a small handful of flats. I challenge you to find a single park that's better themed, only the Disney parks compare and they aren't any cheaper (and have even worse coaster selection).

Look, Spiderman is perhaps the single most expensive attraction ever placed in a theme park. They need to make that money back!
I can't beleive what I am hearing. According to your track record XLForce, you have been to Islands. Now, since you have been there, you should know that they have a whole lot more than "3 big coasters and 2 kiddy ones". I think maybe you are forgetting, uh, lets see, Spiderman, a 500 million dollar dark ride, the best of it's kind. Dr. Dooms Fearfall, one of the best S&S space shots because of the 'pop top'. Dudley Doo-Rights rip saw falls, the best flume ride ever, Popeye and Blutos bilge-rat barges, one of the best rafting rides, Jurrassic Park, and the list goes on. Not to mention that the 3 big coasters are all, top knotch, and one of a kind: the only launched B&M, and the only dueling Invert. Plus, the endless theming which spares no detail.

So, no I think it's a too expensive park. That what tickets to parks in Orlando cost. Sea World admission is 50$+.
If there was ever a park that should cost alot, this is the one.

RobCoasting said it best: It's not quantity, it's quality.

I'd Rather Be Riding Rollercoasters *** This post was edited by FloridaCoasterRider on 4/16/2001. ***
I agree Fierce Pancake, they do have great rides that I enjoy, but they are a fairly new and young park. I don't think a young park like IOA should start it's prices at 45$! I love the park myself, but it's not reasonable for a family of 4 to pay 200$ to spend a day at the park!

The admission price is about what all the other parks are charging. You can get the multi day passes that don't expire. And I recently found a $10 off coupon from Costco. Most parks are charging $45-50, so finding that coupon is the key. If you don't have a coupon, call them up and ask where to find them. If all else fails, then hang out at the gate and see if any are on the window sills, people will leave them there sometimes.

I kinda feel the same way as XL-Force2000 on the rides. They're outstanding, but after you take a lap around the park, you only have Hulk, Doom drop, and DG to ride again, and they're on opposite sides of the park. I don't find myself going on the water rides, or Spiderman after taking that 1st lap. They need another coaster, and a big one at that.

Just this week I wrote IOA an e-mail... Go here to voice your opinion. I know many of you will say it doesn't matter, but I think it does.

I asked them to build an Intamin Giga coaster.
Just got the response back today.

At least they're listening. I'm hoping for something big in a couple years.
IOA is far and away one of the top two amusement parks in the U.S. Paying $45 is actually kind of cheap in my mind. Great rides, Awesome theming, nice people, clean facilities, and beautiful grounds. Three of the best rollercoasters in Hulk, and Dueling Dragons and the best dark ride ever built reside in this park. Awesome special effects in Poseidon's adventure are found at IOA. I absolutely love going to IOA and will gladly pay the $45 to get in.
IOA is well worth the money, I will admit it right here right now, that I spent 80 Dollars to get into the park when it was doing the soft openings, and let me tell you, it was worth every single penny of that 80 dollars, It was just awesome. I know we will also have different opinions, but IOA is good value to me

Also, you say IOA is expensivem think about Sea World, it charges 50 dollars to get in, yet it only has 1 big coaster and a sea Coaster, personally though I thought Kraken was actually worth the admission fee JUST;)
I really want to go to IOA! :) Really I do..
HAHA, waste of money, that's a funny one. Let's see what we get for our $45:

-Dueling Dragons: Possibly the 2 very best inverted coasters out there, which also happens to contain the best darn queue line out there.

-JP River Adventure: Although you don't get too wet, the ride is very fun, and the drop is very high for a water ride

-Popeye and Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges: IMO, the best rapids ride out there. Never has a rapids ride offer such great theming combined with a ride that will soak you no matter where you sit. The whole "drop" at the end of the ride just adds to the experience.

-Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls: Once again, great theming in a ride that comes the closest to a water coaster without being a water coaster. The best flume ride ever.

-Amazing Adventures of Spiderman: The best non-coaster ride ever.

-Dr. Doom's Fear Fall: Nicely themed twin tower S+S Space Shot that gives a great view of the park, and also messes with your head because you don't know when they will shoot you.

-The Incredible Hulk Coaster: One of the better B+M sitdowns out there. Sure the second half may be a tad dull(althought I love the drop off the brake run), but the uphill launch and the whole first half make it all worth it.

-Seuss Landing: Sure this may be the "kiddie" section of the park, it's so amazingly detailed, that you'll enjoy it, even if you are grown up.

Waste of Money???
Survey Says: NO!!!

"When they come for me I'll be sittin at my desk, with a gun in my hand wearing a bulletproof vest!"
-Catch 22
A waste of money?!?!?! I can't believe what I'm hearing here. IOA is one of the best theme parks anywhere and I'll take it way before a park with 14 coasters. I'll take the one with 15 though. ;) It has IMO, it has some of the best theming, food, rides, coasters, service, coasters, atmoshere, etc. of any of the parks I've visited. It's my second fave to none other than BGW. And every single ride at IOA is quality. It's not just 3 or 4 headliners. This park proves that quantity and quality have no relationship(look at BGW, HW, BGT, WDW, DL, KW, Knob).

PKI-Wooden and Kiddie Coaster Capital of the World!
The First and Only Gigabuzzer bigger than Millie, rising Faster than Maggie, and pulls more BS than MS ever will!!!
You are the Weakest Link! Goodbye!!!
$50? If I remember correctly, I paid $57 to get into IOA in December. That's a bit pricey. But it's a great park.

Jman

I don't understand you people who think ioa is a waste of money. it was one of the best parks i have ever been to, and me and my family happily paid $75 for a vip tour. It was welll, welll worth it.
