What I find interesting is there is some disagreement with *this* particular ride and seat assignments, as there are numerous other rides that do the seat assignment as well, Rock N' Rollercoaster and Expedition Everest are two that immediately come to mind, and I dont think I ever heard much complaint about them, but maybe I didnt get into those threads at that time.
Anyways..
I see it this way. Just because they tell you where to sit, doesnt mean that you cant ask for a specific spot. Every place Ive experienced seat assignments, I have been able to request a location and they either put me to the side till it comes time for that spot, or tell me ok and I walk up to it.
At the very least, I have never been turned down for asking for a specific location, though more often than not, I typically dont care if they chose for me especially if I have been on that ride before.

Yeah TD I am.. But I typically dont ask for Front Row if the line is long, and that is typically when I dont care. But I have actually asked for every other seat on most days and always got positive response.
The front row I have gotten positive when the ride isnt obscenely crowded. I guess I tend to ask at the "right" time. Perhaps one of those "mileage may vary" instances.

I'm with you Carrie. On the other hand I've experienced people who refuse to ride with someone else in any row (and my experience was in the front). I actually sat down to ride with him (granted he was a 13 y.o. boy) and he got up and got back in the front row queue.

My first trip to ride MF the front row queue was too full, so we had to ask for second row and just hop the rail (which I understand it "standard practice" among guests). Same thing to get the second to last row on WT.
