Intamin Space Diver?

Thursday, July 18, 2002 8:57 AM

Somewhere I read a rumor Intamin had the parts to their Space Diver boxed up. Is this true?

I sure hope so. The look fun, but there must be a way to make it smoother. I say OTSRs arent needed for this ride- look at Batman & Robin: The Chiller. It has several inversions with lap bars.

Oops....

It was foun at http://www.rollercoasterz.com/dictionarymain.htm#S

It says:

Space Diver- A Intamin ride that uses special drops to try to mimic a fighter jet. Only one of these rides is in operation, that would be Flashback at Six Flags Magic Mountain. It is rumored that there is another one boxed up somewhere.

On this particular ride OTSRs are necessary. Some later sections of the ride have clearances of about a foot from the top of the head rest to overhead track/supports, and if it were possible for you to lift your hands up you would lose them.

Lose them? For real?

Ride Op is right, and for that reason we can never hope to see lap bars on Flashback. What I would like to see is some fresh paint, some re-tracking and softer, padded restraints. I acually like the ride, the dives are merciless, and the combination bunny hop into the helix is really cool. But in it's current form, you have to ride on the defensive, constantly bracing yourself for the brutal turns.
