its not going to be 150 mph, it may not even reach 125 mph, but what would i know? ;-)

actually it is going to be 150mph, besides the fact that i made it up.

Actually Jeff said approx how fast it's going to go. Not even close to 150, man.

Norbert, your not going to last, don't make this into an arguement, i know what this coaster is going to be, 95 % sure that i know the name, and i know all the statistics, so please, lay off...

I also don't see why a rocket coaster is fundamentally different from a LIM launch. That isn't to say that LIM coasters have reached their potential, but I don't think Intamin is really exploring uncharted land here.

1) Much more reliable

2) Ability to sustain acceleration G force

3) Acceleration rate is much greater

4) Energy efficient

5) Fewer operating components (cable pulley system vs numerous electromagnetic staters)

I meant in terms of layout.
Unless the potential talked about in the title of the topic was reliability or energy efficiency.

And from what I've heard, Xcelerator, the only rocket to date, isn't that reliable.

Yes, you are very right. It is certaintly much less reliable than the LIM, although the ride wasn't delayed for 1 year like some LIM rides (the launch did not cause the month long delay). And then sometimes the pulley gets screwed up, goes too far (like it did 2 days after opening), and that takes a good 3 days to fix. I haven't been to knotts once and not seen xcelerator break down. In fact, I've seen the ride shut down for a portion of the day all but 1 of those days. I wonder how things have been going lately. I haven't heard any closure stories so i guess its doing better.

If dragster has similar problems (which i bet it will) during however long it tests, hopefully a few thousand times instead of one thousand times, i hope they hire an intamin tech for the park until they learn how to fix these MAJOR PROBLEMS overnight like the Xcelerator mechanics do over night.

PittDesigner, I was lucky enough to have been to England, and if you like terrain coasters, you'll LOVE Nemasis. My favorite invert by a long shot :)

back on topic...

Heres what I think whould be done... Take the trains of Colossus @ Thorpe park, and use them on an Intamin spagetti style "rocket bowl" coaster. I think that would be great :)

BTW, about reaching potential...

Height does not eaquel potential. To me, the overall ride does. Will a launch tophat brake coaster be good? hell yeah. Will there be better? I believe so ;)

All I know is that I was reading something about Dodonpa. They said they tested it at 120 mph. However, it was brought down because the tires couldn't handle that speed. I REALLY hat saying this, but I think we may have reached our limit.

-----------------

Yeah, but Dodonpa uses inflatable tires.

Säubern Sie mit Milch?

I think it would be too bumpy if you tried to reach speeds up to 120 WITHOUT using rubber tires.

-----------------

Um, why? That really doesn't make any sense, man.
