Actually, stallion, a record is a marketing tool that no one really cares about bout insignifigant fanboys.Xcel is still the best Rocket I've ridden.
You are so wrong. Although it may be a marketing tool, it's a good one at that. And, the majority of people who want to ride a coaster like that aren't geeks about it. They just want to do something different and exciting, and when a coaster close to them can do that, they will ride, especially if they hear it's the tallest and fastest in the WORLD. As for you, you are one of those insignifigant boys, that's why you are on this site. We are all coaster freaks here, so don't go bashing me or anyone else around :-0
Coasterqueen, I hear you loud and clear. I wait for the day when a 400 foot rocket can do all the elements a storm runner or Xcelerator does. Have the launch, the hill, and the drop, but after that, do all what a normal coaster, like S:RoS, does. Have the airtime hills, the overbanked turns, and the helixes. Sure it would cost alot of cash, but all these elements thrown into a coaster like that would no doubt be the No. 1 coaster in the world.
I was looking at Amuesment Today's votings for top 10 steel, and Kingda Ka wasn't there. Top Thrill Dragster was. That makes no sense, Kingda Ka has an extra feature, the airtime hill, TTD doesn't. Without the hate mail, can someone explain.
Why people want CP to build a flyer escapes me. All you have to do is imagine flyer train on Iron Dragon and there you go.
Not hardly. I don't remember the loop on Iron Dragon or a horseshoe for that matter. Did I mention the double in-line twist? Yeah, something else not found on ID. The only thing similar is the helix, that's it. Oh, the helix is a lot different sensation when you are laying down instead of sitting, so that doesn't count either.

Kingda Ka was closed for most of the summer... in the few days that it was open while Golden Ticket ballots were being accepted, not enough people would have ridden it for the ride to make it into the high rankings.
Thanks Phantom, it all makes sense now. Why didn't I see that before?
How is a record anything but a marketing tool? How am I wrong? Do you really think people who aren't in this hobby travel around the world or even a few states away just to ride the Tallest, Fastest Semi-clone in the world? And if they do, it is only because the park is using that as a marketing tool.
As for you, you are one of those insignifigant boys, that's why you are on this site. We are all coaster freaks here, so don't go bashing me or anyone else around.
I know I'm an insignifigan fanboy. So are you. That was the point. No one else ON THE PLANET cares that Ka is higher or faster. In the grand scheme of things, do you think it makes you look 'cool' that you can brag about riding the Tallest, Fastest, most reliable coaster in the world?
Yes Cedar "Counter" Point, I can see how you like everything original. Your spelling for example is very original. Do yourself a favor and buy a dictionary or use one from one of the online sites. If you're going to attack corporate parks, at least make sure you spell it right.
You say that enthusiast don't like clones period. That is absolute bull. The United States is huge. Not every enthusiast has access to unlimited funds to travel to wherever the hell they want to. I obviously can't speak for everyone, but I welcome a coaster that has been successfull at another park. If it doesn't get changed one bit then who cares. It's still a successfull ride.
So let's keep with the theme of this thread. Cedar Point builds Top Thrill Dragster, a ride that's over in about 17 seconds and its got technical issues including long closures. It would be an 8-9 hour trip just to get there. So then Great Adventure builds Kingda Ka this year. It's got bad technical issues as well including closures, but here's the big difference. Not only do I get basically the same coaster, but it's only two and-a-half to three hours from home. If I were to drive there this year and it's not open, I've only lost out on tolls, parking, food, and gas (I have a Six Flags season pass). So now pretend with me that Kingda Ka was never built. If I were to go to Cedar Point and TTD isn't open, I'm out on tolls (two turnpikes), gas, parking, food, admission, and now you have to add in lodging for at least one night.
Now does it make any sense to you why not everyone hates clones? I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you don't like clones, don't travel. The problem is yours, not theirs. *** Edited 9/26/2005 8:11:56 AM UTC by Intamin Fan***
Xcel is Launch, twist, over, twist, Overbank, Overbank, then Brakes.
Stormrunner is Launch Twist, drop, Inversion, weird stuff, Inversion, Weird double up, brakes.
Rita is Launch turn, drop, non inverting cork, stuff, brakes
Kanonen is Launch, twist, over, twist, loop, stuff, inline twist, stuff, brakes.
Superman Escape is Launch Tophat (and I think it is mostly inline, correct?) wide turn, Hill, turn, overbank, bunnyhop (Or something like that). And it has an indoor themed section, with an 'earthquake' section before the launch, and apparently a small launch to the launch area.
Speed Monster will have Launch, over, twist, immleman, stuff, and 2 corks and some hills.
So, out of 9 Accelerator coasters that have been built, or will be finished by next season, you have 3 that are even remotely similar. Two of them are over 400ft, and have a spiral. Two of them have hills after the tophat.
Then, of all the others, some don't or won't even have tophats, others have different types of tophats, different sizes, and no rockets have the exact same elements or order of elements as of yet.
Yep, sure are a lot of clones out there!
What you are saying is very similar to me saying that every wooden roller coaster is the same, they are all clones! You paint a picture as if it's ATTACK OF THE CLONES! in the amuesment industry. I don't care about clones. I'll still ride. I still ride the boomerang whenever the line is short.
And no, I don't travel all over the world to ride the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world so I can brag about it. Heck, I never brag. I tell my friends once, and that's it, it's over. Now, if I was obsessed with riding the tallest and fastest, in 2001 I would've traveled all the way to Japan to ride that dragon one. But, instead I went to Cedar point to ride MF. Which is shorter? But remember, you won't notice an 8 foot difference or a 7 mph increase in velocity, will you?lol.
MF is the best... wait, I already fought this before, nevermind.
Oh wait, that's more bragging.. sorry..
