Intamin Box Track

Sorry if this has been brought up before, I did a search and didn't find anything. What was the first coaster to use Intamin box track? (Intamin Hypers, Impulses, etc.) Thanks!!!

87 different coasters for this year and counting... 149 total!

MF and S:UE, I believe.

Actually, it was most likely SFOG's Mindbender and SFOT's Shockwave, designed by Schwarzkopf and built by Intamin in 1978.

You beat me Rob. Mindbender screams Intamin.

All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers. ;)

True, the first solo Intamin ones I think were the ones I mentioned. (I can't stand being wrong :) )

Speaking of Intamin track, I was at SFGAdv yesterday, and while on Nitro's lift hill I looked to the right, down into their storage shed area, and saw some purple painted (box, I think) track. Davie the Luv Monkey, who was with me and more knowledgeable about such things, says it's Intamin. We also saw a few trailers in the very back of the employee parking lot. Personally I think it's from Skull Mountain, but any other opinions?

Hmmm, I've ridden Skull Mountain with lights on and don't remember box track. But....many parts of cranes/other heavy machinery look just like that track. Maybe you saw equipment that's going to be used for construction of their new coaster? (As much as I'd love a good Intamin at SFGAd, the rumors.clues don't seem to be leading in that direction)

Don't forget Intamin track has evolved from Schwarzkopf design. It has changed over the years as needs have changed molding it into the standard that it is today.

And just cause I like it:

Schwarzkopf track survives
"Neanderthal" is the fittest
Intamin's rails rule

Thinking that with the number of defunct rides from SFGAdv, it could be something that *didn't* get caught up in the SF ride rotation plan and instead sits rotting away....
Okay first off, the box beam design originated from Schwartzkopft. Intamin AG made a variation off that design with the introduction of Volcano The Blast Coaster (1998), Linear Gale (1999) and Six Flags Darien Lake's Superman Ride of Steel (1999). So Peabody, you're wrong again. Millennium Force and Ultimate Escape debuted in 2000.

But, none of those 3 have box track. They have triangular track that is not too dissimilar to "regular" steel coaster track. (I'm not wrong :) )

MF and S:UE were the first "modern" Intamin coasters to use box track.

Skull Mountain's track looks nothing like the new intamin triangle, box track. It looks like old arrow. I've also been on it with the lights on. It looks like old arrow track. SFGadv is in need of an Intamin.

The old Schwarzkpf track like on Mindbender and Shockwave is "less dense" and uses thinner members and struts than the current Intamin track does.

Peabody's right... the Intamin coasters built in 1998 and 1999 did not use the box beam track, but rather triangular track. And SFDL's Superman doesn't even use the triangular track for the entire length of the ride, because the end portiton of the ride (speed hills, etc.) uses track that closely resembles that of Schwarzkopf's Jets Stars & Jumbo Jets.
Intamin uses a track type necessary to support the train and forces on that part of the ride. One coaster could have four sided "box" track, three sided "triangular" track and simply two sided track pieces. Increaseing the size or density of cross members simply increases the strength of the track section.

I'm assuming that's why the older Intamin "box" track on the Mindbender & Shockwave has less dense, because the old Schwazkopf trains are most likely lighter than today's mega coaster and inverted trains.

One of the (MANY) great things about Mindbender, those amazingly thin supports....ANTON...:)

Does Linear Gale also have the box track as well? That was built before S:UE.
Linear Gale was triangular..

Double post, woops
