Intamin appreciation

Um...Okay. Is the ride really that different on the different types of track? Or different at all?

Yeah man, that triangular track just made the ride suck! ;)
ApolloAndy, a lot of Intamin Hypers and Giga change the type of track midway through the ride. It isn't noticeable either, I've never really noticed it- the running rails always stay the same, its just the support underneath the track that changes.

------------------
The only difference between stupidity and genius is genius has limitations.

Those are some of the reasons that Intamin can cut the cost down on their coasters as well. In places with few or no supports, they use box track. Where there are sufficinet supports, but a lot of forces on the track, they use the triangular track. On the brake runs (and occasionally other places) they use the two rail track. They are the only company I know of that has this plug and play type of track, and IMO it has really helped them to get bids. Millennium Force cost 25 million instead of the 30+ million it would have cost B&M (if they would have built it al all).

Intamin is the Arrow of the '70's and '80's, and the B&M of the '90's. Intamin just keeps the innovations coming, and I can't wait for their next design, which is apparently a launched water ride. :) I'm thinking a Perilous Plunge-type ride with a launch and a vertical tower.

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.

Actually the box track came around when Intamin was part of Schwarzkopf. The now Intamin designed the box track for Anton's use. When Schwarzkopf shut down, Intamin moved to Vekoma, then later became what is now "Intamin", which they still had the patents on the box track (registered patent through designer, not manufacturer)

Not true. Intamin never was a part of Schwarzkopf. They only represented the company. And, the box track was designed by Schwarzkopf and not Intamin.

Am I really that shy?

Box Track, Triangular Track as well as the Flat track that we see on all Intamin coasters was designed by Schwarzkopf, and has the triangular and box track seen on Shockwave @ Six Flags over Texas, and the flat track is seen on the Jumbo Jet series.

But yes, Intamin was only the representative for Schwarzkopf in the U.S., when Revolution was produced, Magic Mountain bought Revolution from Intamin, but Schwarzkopf was the designer and manufacturer of the ride.

After TTD opens at CP, I think they should call Intamin back up and conduct a little experiment. They should take the train from WT and put it on the course of TTD! That would be one heck of a ride! What do you guys think?

YOUNGSTOWN 2010

Why would you want to ride TTD upside down??? That would be VERY uncomfortable...

More than uncomfortable, that would be lethal. Seriously. All those Gs going straight to your head would destroy your brain.

.....you never know, someone may consider to build a ride like that..........

So, Peabody, you could ride it without any problems, then? ;) ;)

(sorry, dude, you left yourself WIDE open for that slam...)

I know, it really doesn't make sense. But I always thought of wierd innovations and ideas like that since I was a young kid. I used to think of some strange ones:

Take the train from Raptor and put in on Manits.

Take the trains from the Cedar Creek Mine Ride and put them on Magnum. Then, take the trains from Magnum and put them on the track of Corkscrew. -No overhead restraints, awesome! Finally, take Corkscrew's trains and put them on Cedar Creek Mine Ride!

Imagine Mean Streak and Blue Streak exchanging trains.

Take MF trains and place them on the track of WT!

Imagine Mean Streak and Blue Streak exchanging trains? That would be different only in the train length. And the fact that MS trains actually have something to hold on to other than the head of the person in front of you.

Wild Layouts, eh? ;)

I agree that S:ROS in SFDL doesnot have the greatest layout but it WAS the first. It was the best at one time and still is up there. It is extremely fun and thats why I tip my hat off to Intamin AG for this Masterpiece of Work

How about switching the trains on S:RoS SFNE and S:RoS SFA?

Oh, I'm definatly not taking anything away from Intamin. I love their rides. I actually like the straightaways on the Superman sisters and Millie. They really give you a sense of speed. :)

Beleive it or not, that Helix on SROS at SFDL is taken very fast. After about 20 rides on it, taht helix can become sickening. SROS is a very fun ride even though some dont think it has the greatest layout, but the drop is amazing along with all the bunny hills.

After this summer, I really REALLY hope to be able to compare the S:RoSs...that alone would make it a sweet summer (not that I won't be *hoping* for more, LOL)...still find it hard to believe there weren't more of those things made. To think there are more GIB's....mind boggling, eh?

There is nothing wrong with S:ROS's layout. It's a classic layout that mimics a classic out and back wooden coaster. The elements are simple and well executed. Of course SFNE's version is the masterpiece, but SFDL's version is fantastic in it's own way. I think like anything else, people take what they've ridden many times for granted, always searching for what's next.
