Inside Disneyland's Space Mountain

If go to http://www.miceage.com/allutz/al082203a.htm right now, you will see recent photos of the constuction going on for the update to Space Mountain at Disneyland for it's 50th birthday.

Wow! Where has all the track gone (meaning, is it sitting outside or melted down already)? I would say that it's birthday would be until the year after next would be it's 50th (running) birthday.

From what I heard, they have taken it to Burbank. I sure hope they have SM ready by the 50th anniversary, they sure are taking a long time at demo.

So what exactly is happening inside Space Mountain? Are they removing the old coaster and getting a new one? If a new one, who is it designed by...Vekoma?

I'm very 'in the dark' about this one...pun intended.

I believe they are replacing the track. I think Vekoma is re-designing the ride to run through the existing course, just with the new sound effects and what not they added to the rocket cars. I read somewhere that with the added weight of the audio system, it was causing too much stress on the track.

They're selling to old track to Six Flags, who is going to attach it to the "Shock" half of Shockwave when they install it at SFFT next year.
