I'm glad I found this board. I'm going to be visiting my first SF theme park on august 14th, in georgia. Having read some reviews on the internet, I'm very worried about crazy crowds and 2 hour lines. I have a couple questions.
How bad are the crowds in August usually? I chose the 14th because thats a thursday; will going on a weekday make a difference?
What about the Q-Bot system; how effective is it? do you suggest that I get it?
Thanks for any info you can provide. I appreciate it.

Whenever you can ride a roller coaster and experience 15 spots of intense airtime, you know you're on a good coaster. (see: Phoenix)
I think there's probably a guarantee that the park wont be crowded at all. Have fun!
The Georgia DOT's public site is www.georgia-navigator.com. It will give you the latest information on construction and accidents along the interstates and major highways throughout the states (particularly helpful if you're driving to SFOG from out-of-state.
Go to SFOGnet at www.mind-bender.org/sfog/ They have a lot of general park information, and the forums (as far as I can tell, I'm not a member) have some pretty knowledgeable members.
If schools are out by then, the park should be pretty empty, like others say. I would get a Q-Bot after checking out the park a little bit. The decision to get one really boils down to how long you're willing to wait. I don't mind waits of 0-45 minutes, and that's probably what you'll encounter (except possibly for SUF and Deja Vu). If you get there and the park is packed out for some reason, you'll probably want to get one.
I've neverused the system and find it sort of a rip-off... but it's good for crowded days like weekends (but I don't go then amyway).

Is that a Q-bot in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

Ramming your face into the bottom of a swimming pool is not very fun.
