Indiana Beach 7/28/2001

Associated parks:
None

I was at Indiana Beach on 7/28/2001. Got to ride the Cornball express and Hoosier Hurricane. We went with my company from work and it was a grey and overcast day. We went to the water park and got in the lazy river and it was soooooooo crowded we were toe to toe with everyone else and alot of the peeps that were there were so obnoxious that the life gaurds couldnt keep up with all the idiots that were not riding on their tubes. Then we got out and went to the rides. whoever does the scheduling of picnics at IB really does not have his/her act together. That place was just wall to wall peeps and we had to wait and hour and a half to get on superstition Mountain! we went on the Chaos ride and as usual the ride op didn't know how to balance the ride, because it went up and stopped and came right back
down. so we took my kid on the Rocky Rapids ride and she loved it!! Then it was to Frankenstein's Castle, and it was the best thing in the park besides the coasters. IB did a very good job in revamping the castle. All in all the place was way to crowded due to Them over scheduling the company picnics.. will go back after school is back in session.

I love the American Eagle at SFGRAM!!!!
You must have hit a bad day. Both times I've gone this summer have been on Saturdays with multiple company picnics going on, but it never really seemed that crowded to me. Did you like the coasters?

I had a friend go a few weekends ago and I got about the same story from her. Superstition Mountain and Den of Thieves are almost always somewhat crowded. I am disappointed when I hear about someone not having a great time, but this is the busiest time of the season. I was there last year in August when it was fairly crowded, but I was also there during the parks 4 first weekends of this season and it was slow, very slow, but I had a wonderful time. It is a great park to take kids to. I guess more companies should try to schedule earlier in the year.

Wow, this is the first time I've seen someone have a disappointing day at Indiana Beach...maybe it was just a bad day. Usually, everything goes smooth. BTW, the two dark rides generally have longer lines because people are attracted to them AND they are air conditioned. Superstition Mountain is supposedly going to be revamped soon, so maybe it will have faster operation. The current operation does take quite a while and the line moves slow...but we'll see what happens after they fix it up.

25 summers at the place and you'd think I get a gold watch....instead another wooden coaster. Life is sweet!

It was a busy Saturday but not the busiest I had ever seen. We set a record in the SkyRoom the previous night. (I had to ride CornBall to relieve the stress!) Keep in mind that this is peak vacation time. I cannot tell you how the picnics are scheduled, but if you have the stamina to stay till the midnight closing you can get in a lot more rides with less wait.

Hope your next visit is better!

Oops, I heard it from two different people, so it made me think that it would be done in the next few years :)

Sounds like a plan!

I "heard" that the "tracking" of Superstition Mountain was going to be re-done as the cars don't always run as they were intended. But that has been the case ever since I can remember. Mystery Mansion-now Den of Thieves-and Superstition Mtn. have always gathered huge lines with longer waits. When they re-structured Mystery Mansion, they allowed for more guests to walk through an area that once occupied the ride to accomodate more people without bottle-necking that area of the Boardwalk--as it had done many times before the changeover. Even after almost 30 years, the "Mansion" captivated many visitors. The orange tree can now be seen in a tunnel behind the castle only viewed by the Train ride.
