Indiana Beach 6/2 - "The Hotel Lobby"

Associated parks:
None

Our original SRM plans had been to go to SFKK on Friday before the event and to stop at IB on Sunday for LoCoSuMo. Since the delay in LoCoSuMo's opening had occured, we decided not to kill ourselves with driving and to hit SFKK on Sunday and call it a day.

We left SFKK at about 4pm central time, and were on our way home to Chicago combating a mixture of fatigue, road construction, heat, and severe storms outside of Louisville. At about 6:30, the temperature had dropped significatly, the storms had cleared, and we were feeling pretty good about life. At this point Tom said "You know, Indiana Beach is open to 11 toinght." I was right with him, and broke out the map to figure out the best route from out location on I-65.

We had both pretty much had this stop on the back of our minds, but didn't really say anything about it. It was pretty much a given that we wouldn't be able to stay away from the park if we were 25 minutes away.

We rolled into the south lot at 8pm, paid our $2 boardwalk fee, and had our two-for-one POP bands by 8:10. It felt good to be "home" on a perfect night: Beautiful, cool weather and a really small crowd.

We went over to the Corball Express for the first of many rides. There was a bunch of enthusiasts that we recognized from the weekend at SRM (none that we personally knew) all enjoying CE. We did get to meet rollergator (Bill) and his wife Jill briefly, and later ran into IB Dave (always a pleasure to see him).

Cornball was running great. It just keeps getting better and better. I absolutely love this ride. It is non-stop, laugh out loud fun from start to finish.

After about 5 or 6 CE rides, we headed over to the Hurricane for a couple laps. Hurricane was running great too, and going through the turnaround past the Ferris Wheel at night remains one of my favorite coaster moments.

After our Hurricane rides we took a Double Shot, got a drink, and just relaxed a bit on the boardwalk. It was so nice to just sit in the cool air after the hot and humid weekend.

We headed back to CE for about two hours of non-stop madness. I have no idea how many rides we got in, and somewhere along the line I simply lost my mind. The riding, walking, lack of sleep, the heat and humidity in Santa Claus and Louisville, and sheer exhaustion finally got the best of us. We got loopy. Everything was funny, and we couldn't stop laughing.

What a perfect ending to a great weekend. I am so glad we made the stop at Indiana Beach on the way home for another wonderful night at my favorite park.

How could I forget...

Highlight of the day at IB: My usually mild-mannered, ever so polite cohort Tom letting out a loud, cathartic "Oh Yeah" yell on the last CE ride of the night, much to the dismay of a train full of enthusiasts. Priceless. I told you we were loopy...

And a pleasure to see you again, Chris, especially on a day when I came to play and not work!

Indiana: The State of CCI.

LoCoSuMo: Opening soon!

I would love LoCoSuMo to open this weekend, but I kind of want it to be pushed back just one more week so I can ride it opening weekend. Sorry guys, I just have my fingers crossed. Well, if it finally opens I guess I'll have to wait for sometime next week. I really hope this gives Indiana Beach more recongnition. The beach has ALOT of competition from Southern Indiana.

You can hear the laughter, you can hear the mighty roar. From the brickyard down in Indy to the white Chicago shore. It's a rollin', twistin', turnin' and might we both suggest. You get you fanny ridin' on the Cornball Express!

Definately agreed Cornball Freak. HW gives it a run for its money. I will be looking forward to my re-scheduled visit for Jun 27-28 (definate date to be decided later). I am looking forward to riding CE. Great TR!
