Important developments in coasters

What do you think is the biggest development in recent years? I think it is breaking the 300 ft. barrier.

TITAN IS GONNA ROCK TEXAS
Although not VERY recent, I think the most important development is having all 3 sets of wheel making solid contact with the rails....ala B&M.

Most innovative is LIM and air powered launches.

I agree that the launch is the most innovative. I think the best idea in the past several years have been 4 across trains.

300 foot barrier...MILLENNIUM FORCE!

mikey :)
Actually the 300 ft. barrier was broken 3-4 years before Millennium Force. It was easy, but you need some money to do it.

OH NO!!!! Not an "Is Superman:TE a coaster"!!!!

What official record book, website, poll, group, etc. doesn't call it a coaster? It's a coaster to me. It's obviously who brought up STE not being a coaster, but I'm too tired to elaborate. :)

I would have to say... B&M trains. Well, their hyper trains anyway.

Georgia Scorcher...OH yeah it's fire baby!!!
Arrow's tubular stell track that it used for WDL's Matterhorn Bobsled ride.
I have to say Giga Coasters, LIM & LSM launched coasters and Compressed Air Launched coasters.

Very Extreme Kind Of Mental Aches

i agree with everyone about the launches. also, the new types that have popped up...

giga, impulse, flying, 4-D...

im starting to think we are running out of ideas for different riding positions. but would be nice(but prob not possible)would be inverts w/ lap bars. personally, i think that would be awesome. especially if the impulse's had lap bars.

The LIM/air/hydraulic has to be one of the most prominent innovations. I don't know how anyone could say that height is an innovation or an important development. It didn't exactly require any new technology or startling innovation to make it happen.
Now, the funny thing about this thread is that if you werent checking the dates closely, you'd think Pointman and NITROman responded the same day. In reality, it was 365 day apart.

Odds my bodkins...ain't that a koinkidenke :) :)

I'm just curious why one year SFMM advertised in thier OWN literature that S:TE was the worlds tallest coaster. Then a year later when Goliath opened they advertised THAT as the worlds tallest coaster??? hehehe

Standards people.. at least TRY to have them..

I'd go with ALL the computerized controls.....but only 'cause the topic said RECENT. Otherwise, I'll stick with upstops and tubular steel....

bill, still feeling the love for John Miller, and the "old" Arrow Dynamics crew....

Inverts & The 4D.

Launched coasters have been around for a while, ala Tidal Wave, and it is still just an offshoot of other technologies, as applied to coasters. The 4D is truely unique -coaster- innovation.

-------------
Current favorite coasters:
Wooden: 1) Beast 2) Raven 3) Son of Beast 4) The Boss 5) Timber Wolf
Steel: 1) Raging Bull 2) Millennium Force 3) V2 4) Wild Thing 5) Mr. Freeze

I think the 4d is the most innovative design out there right now in roller coasters but the most important inovative design I think happened in 1992 at SFGAm with Batman the Ride.

Booker T and Goldust at the Movies:"Thats right you suckas better find someplace to run, cause its me Booker T. Not only am I the Scorpian King, but im the 5 time WCW Champion, and I got a sword too. Now can you dig that Sucka!"

A subtle but potentially very influential innovation...

The conversion of a few particular coasters from OTSR (over the shoulder restraints) to lap bars.

"Looks like you've been missing quite a bit of work lately"
"Well, I wouldn't say I've been MISSING it, Bob."
