I'm proud of six flags this year!

Ok, you can use the population excuse as why parks like SFEG and SFKK don't get lavish attention - but why is Six Flags Astroworld getting the consistant cold shoulder? The Houston area's got a population on par with New York, Chicago, LA...?

Probably because Astroworld really has no room to put in any new roller coasters. They are pretty land-locked from what I hear.

What is life without it's ups and downs
Maybe Six Flags should stop buying parks and start concentrating on improving what they already have.

Phantom's Revenge in 2001!
Regarding the Six Flags St. Louis issue. We're not really complaining. We dig the BOSS and weren't expecting much this year anyway. Besides as long as we get a coaster in 2003 we'll be happy.

You build it, I'll ride it...eventually
I'm happy with Six Flags for the most part, but that's because I go to SFA. For some reason they've decided to constantly improve this park with big projects starting with Typhoon Seacoaster in 97'. I'm happy to see them doing painting at some of the other parks. Maybe they've painted some rides at SFA in the off-season. I do feel bad for some of the other parks that haven't got anything new in sometime.

Nahh, the Cavs can't even touch thw Wizards for worst team award. Also, Didn't SFKK get a Wild Mouse last year or the year before? I know thwy have one because I rode it this past summer. Good one to.

Peace, Love, and Rollercoasters.........we need more of all three.
Responding to the sub-post about Ohio...let me just speak a little for my hometown, Columbus.

Most people don't realize it's the biggest city in Ohio and the 14th biggest in the nation (and that's in 1990.) In fact, it's the fastest growing city in the Midwest. There's a ton to do here as well. The Short North art gallery district and the Wexner Center, a nationally known gallery at Ohio State...not to mention all the Ohio State sports, and now pro hockey and a new "arena district" downtown...highest per capita number of movie screens in the nation, including 2 24-screen theaters and a 30-screen theater....and...well, let's just say it's a world-class city, not cows and farms like most people think.

The city of Columbus is largest, but the metropolitan market (determined by radio and TV ratings) is actually third largest (#34) behind Cleveland (#24) and Cinci (#26).

Jeff, what you say is true...but Columbus will be the largest metro area in a very short time. Cincy doesn't have any more land to annex. I don't know about Cleveland...but Columbus has nearly unlimited room to expand, and it's using it. Since I've lived here in the past 7 years, the entire city has changed. There are new developments going up everywhere simultaneuously. Sorry to rant but I'm just kind of tired of Columbus being overlooked. :)
One more thing....your ranking for Cincinnati is off....it's ranked 31st. Your other two numbers are right.
I don't want to get way off topic here...

But you guys (Ohio) also need a professional football team! :-)

Six Flags needs the money for Warner Brothers Movieworld Madrid. This park will get 2 B&M's (Inverted = Batman, Floorless = Superman), Super Boomerang, Mack Wildmouse, Vekoma Kiddiecoaster and RCCA - Intamin Woodencoaster. Furthermore the highest S&S Power Tower (Spaceshot, Turdo Drop, Double Drop), Logflume, Rapid River, Chute the Cote, 3d Bioscoop, many shows, some flatrides and pukerides. The most rides will be built this year. So the most of the rides will go to Europe and next year Europe will get many rides, even more rides then America!!!!!
Hmmm. I'm going by my dictionary's listing from the 1990 census. Either way, the point will be moot when Columbus' population like doubles in the next 25 years. ;)
At the rate were going, In 25 years, Cleveland will annex Sandusky. Even 10 years ago, the area 10 miles west of Cleveland but farms. Since then, Westlake, Avon, Avon Lake, North Ridgeville and Sheffield became developed and now I see houses all the way through Lorain and Elyria which is only 20 miles from CP.

PKI is still one of the busiest
parks in the nation (thanks
largely to the CP crowd I'm sure).
-------------------------------

Don't be too sure of yourself there buddy. I think PKI had more guests in '98 or '99 than CP and has many years before that. This year, PKI is only about 5% behind CP this year. PKI has never relyed on CP. I don't know many who would travel an extra 4 to 5 hours to get between these two parks besides enthusiasts. Most of the visitors that go to these two parks are from their surrounding area. There are people closer to Michagan's Adventure or the previous Geauga Lake that would rather pass those parks to go to CP. And people closer to Coney Island, SFKK, or the old Americana that pass those to go to PKI. So, PKI and CP aren't really close enough to compete for that kind of crowds. They rely on themselves and the smaller surrounding parks.

I live about 30 minutes from PKI and 3 hours from CP. I've been to PKI about 15 times a year for quite a few years and only been to CP 3x in all. Once, for Raptor, in which I decided it would be awhile before I went again. Absolutely nothing special but that and Magnum. The second time for Mantis in '97. Third time this year for MF. And I'll go again next year. But there hasn't been a money problem there. We just weren't too crazy about CP. But we go 6 hours away to Dollywood every year and to WDW/IOA/BGT/SWF every year.

And, yes, to answer your question WildOne. It's called Roadrunner Express. And they got a pretty decent twin wooden coaster in '98 or '99: Twisted Sisters.

Does anyone know if this park is just poorly visited or does SF think there is a lack of competition? Or not enough funds for it? I think SF should continue their ride moving thing so they can get at least a couple "new" rides at these parks every year. Notice SFKK used to have Vampire until they moved it to another franc椀猀攀 琀栀攀渀 眀愀礀 氀漀眀攀爀 漀渀 琀栀攀椀爀 氀椀猀琀㨀匀䘀䔀䜀⠀䤀 琀栀椀渀欀⤀⸀ 䄀渀礀漀渀攀 攀氀猀攀 氀椀欀攀搀 琀栀愀琀 爀椀搀攀 洀漀瘀椀渀最 椀搀攀愀㼀

Don't make this a holy war over Ohio parks... those discussions are boring.

PKI has historically had about 100,000 more guest per year than Cedar Point. That's not surprising considering that they've always had a longer season. With CP extending its season to the last weekend in October this year, and considering the cool million they'll spend on Halloweekends, it should be interesting to see how the numbers turn out.

Regarding Cleveland, I think the more immediate possibility in the next few decades is development closure between Cleveland and Akron along the I-77 and I-271 corridors.

SF concentrates on the parks that are in a competitive market. Look at the major improvements at SFGA. I don't understand why they don't do something with SFDL. The park has a hotel and a 2000 site campground, and for what, you can see and do everytning in the park in a day.
Certain Six Flags parks get larger funds certain years due to competition. Six Flags Magic Mountain is getting three coasters to take advantage of the opening of Disney's California Adventure. If SFMM can get even a small fraction of the overflow crowds who come to California to go to SFMM, then they have done their job. Also, SFMM wanted to gain the title as the park with the most roller coasters in the world.
Another example is Six Flags Worlds of Adventure. The park is very close to Cedar Point and Paramount's Kings Island. They need to make a good image of themselves to get the patrons that they need to survive.
Six Flags Elich Gardens has no competition and has nothing to fear. People go to SFEG becuase of past reputation and it is the only major park in Denver.
