Ike Closes Holiday World

At risk of being branded a total weather geek :) I wanted to give one last link that I found interesting:

http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Observation.aspx?location=USOH0188

This will only be good for today, but if you look down, you can see where things started to get bad (the 1:53p and 2:53p marks Sun) - it looks like the reporting station lost power at that point, as there are no more records until early Mon AM.

The windstorm intensity didn't peak until close to 6pm, and barometric pressure was already down to 29.44 at 2:53. It likely went a few tenths lower than that... look at how quickly it recovered to 29.94 by 3am Monday. For the Midwest, that was an extremely localized and powerful low-pressure system.

Geek mode off :)

Oh, Jeff.

I'm going to have so much fun tormenting you on the 27th.

Thanks for that. :)

Paula (is that a blizzard I see forecast? yes, I believe it is...)

I give up. I'm an insensitive dick, OK? Is everyone happy now?

LOL! Even though it is 100000% sarcastic, I'm sure that post will come back to bite you in the ass.

Let's just all move on and agree that this is the best on-ride coaster pic ever!

Funny, but not real vomit.

What I take issue with is the general sky is falling nonsense that precedes every weather event in this part of the country.

The TV news is the same out here in LA. We get a slight chance of rain and suddenly it's "Storm Watch 2008!" (insert uber-serious music).

Paula says "under-promise, over-deliver".Maybe weathermen don't follow that credo? :) ;)

That is, when your argument is blown to smitherines that you simply just attack the messenger and not have anything else to explain yourself.

Someone else's inability to understand what I'm arguing does not invalidate my argument, it only validates they don't understand what I'm debating or I'm not making it clear enough. I'll take responsibility for the latter, but not the former.

Keep it up Paula, and I'll invite Cupcake to the event... ;)

Glad I got to the park on Saturday.

We are still under a "State of Emergency"... (No school tomorrow...)

Jeff said:I'm not suggesting that it's any less real to people who do have clean-up to do, but look at Hoffman's follow up... he was the first to chime in and in the end had nothing serious at all. That is what I'm talking about.

I had nothing serious to deal with in this storm, but a lot of my friends and family back home did. I was referring mostly to Southern Indiana and not to where I am. Perhaps I did not make that clear enough.

You did make some very valid arguments about being overly cautious. However, I would rather we be over cautious than under cautious.

I HATE when Mom and Dad fight!

I live in Cleveland, where the weather can change very quickly.
We came beck from South of Canton during the wind blasts. I saw garbage cans
flying down I-77 and more than one lid fly over us. I counted easily over a dozen downed trees.
This was not counting the tree from yard that landed in my neighbors yard.
I've never been to Holiday World, but my guess is they closed because they didn't want their trees to crush anyone.

Nothing worse than being killed by charm. ;)

Charmed to death?

Bwah-hah-hah.

I'll bet you were just waiting for a good wind storm to use that one, huh Gonch? ;)

What's odd is that most severe windstorms in the midwest hit where it's flat with no trees for miles in any direction. You know, places like Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Cedar Point... ;)

...Kings Island's parking lot :)

You guys should've seen the mess that twsiter in NH made. They're still cleaning it up three months later.
