If you could change anything about CP, what would

If I could change any thing about Cedar Point, I would take out Mean Streak, Disaster Transport, and the Iron Dragon. I love the idea of "Boarwalk Shores." I would then add a floorless coaster, a multi-element giga coaster, and also a heartline coaster. I would also add Superman: the Escape like ride, only bigger! I also think I would create better quality food too. What would some of you guys do?
Outside of the boardwalk idea, I wouldn't change a thing.

...I would take out Mean Streak, Disaster Transport, and the Iron Dragon...

Why?

Why would you want to take these coasters out? I just don't understand. A lot of people ride these rides to "build up" for the larger ones. They also add variety.

I would, if I could, change the world....opps.
I would add a large woodie and a floorless. Also, I would like to see a sit down mega dueling looper! ;)
The reason I would take out Meanstreak is because well, its not a very good woodie. They tryed to incorporate the old woodie effect with all the jostling and bumping. This would be OK, but they overdo it a bit. I see many people(young and old) walking away grabbing their neck and back after they rode it. With todays technologies and advances, Disaster Trasport and Iron Dragon fall way short. Good themes, but fairly boring rides. Compare Top Gun at PKI to Iron Dragon, you will see a major difference. CP is full of warm-up coasters. How 'bout Gemini, Bluestreak, and Cedar Creek Mine ride. All classics which still give a great thrill. The 3 I mentioned above still have long lines, but don't forget many people come from other states and nations to ride every coaster in the park. I live in Ohio, so I know which coasters at CP are good to ride. Now I am not saying not to ride Disaster Transport, Meanstreak, or Iron Dragon, but for my time and money, the other coasters are much more worth the wait in line. But hey, I am only speaking from my "point" of view.

Though it has been discussed to death on Guide to The Point, it's worth mentioning that part of Mean Streak's problem is the trains... they don't articulate and therefore bounce through the turns. It was never intended to be as rough as it is, though I expect it will be much better the first week or two of the new season following all of the retracking. Also, the foam rubber seat backs transmit every little vibration into your spine. Lean forward a little and the ride isn't that bad.

Iron Dragon vs. Top Gun is like father to son. Top Gun has bolted track (not welded) and uses the terrain very effectively, something Iron Dragon can't do. Is Iron Dragon a bad ride? No, it's just not the most exciting compared to the newer Arrow suspended coasters.

Disaster Transport continues to draw people in, and I'll ride it from time to time, just to say I did. If the wait is short, I still find it to be a fun ride, most certainly unique.

The point is, why remove anything? If you don't like it, don't ride it, make the line shorter for those who do want to ride it.

I totally agree with Jeff. Just because you don't like a ride does NOT mean it's target for removal. Disaster Transport HAS kind of fallen by the wayside, but it's still a fun ride. Mean Streak still has potential, we'll see how it rides this summer. As for Iron Dragon, that ride has aged very well because of all the trees that have grown in around it.

Cedar Point DOES still have room. What would *I* do?

o Restore Blue Streak to its former glory by returning to the old style trains (leaving in the automatic brakes is fine, but let us have the airtime back! ;-) )

o Add the boardwalk that's been talked about. The ferris wheel has already been moved. Add some other flat rides, some carnie games, food, and the central piece of the boardwalk -- a CCI-built Cyclone style woodie.

o Add a large multielement. Floorless, if desired, but that's not critical. A floorless launched (ala Hulk) would go well and give them something "unique".

Coaster count: a meager 33, but climbing this summer!
Hey, I am glad most of like riding Disaster Transport, Mean Streak, and Iron Dragon. I promise not to legnthen any of thier lines with my presence. I will however be adding some legnth to Magnum, Mantis, Raptor, and MF this summer. To each his own. Have fun!
If I could change anything, and this goes for every amusement park in the world, it'd be the prices. I don't mind paying a lot of money to get in, but the food is WAY too expensive... In point of fact: The MacDonald's in Six Flags over Georgia. SIX BLOODY DOLLARS FOR A REGULAR HAMBURGER!!!

Are you kidding?!?!?!?! I LOVE Mean Streak!!! I think it's absolutely awesome! I must admit, the brakes on the top are a bit much, but that ride is just plain intense. I LOVE that fact that it's so rough, that you can barely see the track ahead of you!! It's called the MEAN Streak and it sure is mean! The pain, confusion, chaos, and noise make this ride awesome! You can tell when you've been on Mean Streak for the rest of the day! I remember the first year it opened. I had just waited 3 hours for it and I put my head against the seat back (didn't know any better back then). I had the worst headache but the adreneline was pumpin so hard. When we hit the final brake run, a remember hearing all the noise of the ride and brakes and then a guy in the very back yell, "Holy crap, that ride beat the **** outta me!!!" And I laughed so hard! Not to mention it's like the longest ride in the park! Leave my Mean Streak right where it is!! :) Whew. There's my 2 cents!
I have heard that mean streak was better the first year when there were no brakes at the top of the hill and before they changed the first curve. You got more speed. any thoughts? I never rode it back then though. *** This post was edited by Hooper on 2/17/00. ***
The first year Mean Streak opened it was psycho. The most striking part was watching it go on the midway. Man, the wood would flex and shake like there was no tomorrow. I remember thinking, "How can that wood take that over and over again?!?" I don't know anything about the first curve being changed. What do you mean by that?
I heard that they changed the first turn, making it supposedly easier on all who rode it. Actually redesigning it, more banked and slowing the cars down. I never heard anything from CP that they did. It must have been a rumor and they never changed it. Forget it just a rumor about the curve redesign.
I would personaly take out the Disaster Transport and the Iron Dragon, then put in a Wild Mouse coaster and a better Suspended coaster.
On taking things out... I would leave all of the coasters with the exception of Iron Dragon and a speculation on DT. I like Iron Dragon but it needs more to it somehow like more mist in the lagoon and maybe some themeing type stuff in the forest... Also with DT, they spend 3 million to add effects to it yet I have never seen them. The ride now seems very, very neglected. They need to restore it persay to how it was in 1990 when they reopened it with the building and all.

On DT... I personally think that it'd be better going back to the original Avalanche Run idea. They need to build some real dark rides (maybe as part of the proposed boardwalk project) and change DT back into AR, and then they'd probably have something.

I wouldn't change anything because Cedar Point is great, and it will be even better with Millennium Force in 2000!!
The only thing i would change is the Mean Streak.
It WAS a great ride the first year. Take that trim off the first hill! Please! The airtime on the third hill that first year was unreal.
Also with that trim and the blocks, the second half of the ride is slugish (to put it nicely). that last circuit is so agonizing when the blocks bring you to a near stop.

Retracking would be great, so would old fashioned cars. One lap bar, no divider, no headrests (ok there could be a seat belt). That would help matters.

After all it was meant to be a record breaker type thrill, not a start-up coaster, or a back breaker.
If they did all that for the Mean Streak (except for the retracking) than you would have an A.C.E. Coaster Classic. And we all know at the big parks that just wont happen.

But you CAN'T remove the trim on the drop. The ride will tear itself apart. That's the problem. The trains don't articulate and as a result bounce through the turns causing wear to the track and rattling the structure.

Mean Streak is perpetually retracked by its staff of six carpenters. I expect most of the rail steel will be replaced by opening day. Heck, most of it was gone in November.

So what they REALLY need is to put new trains on the Mean Streak...
