Idlewild Park July 26, 2001

Nothing like spending a peaceful, relaxing day in one of the most beautiful parks in the country. It was amazingly hot the previous 3 or 4 days in Pittsburgh. I really wanted to go to the water park, but I thought it would be a little cold for my tastes.

We got there before the rides started so I took a trip through Story Book Forest. Something different and classic. After burning some pent up energy in Jumpin' Jungle, I took a trek through Confusion Hill. Very disorienting haunted house that is narrated all the way through. After spinning on Dizzy Lizzy, I stopped by the potato patch for some great fries. The park did not have enough people working there though. They had the same amount of people working at the taco joint and there was no one over there. Still, great fries.

After hopping on the train, I walked into Racoon Lagoon and rode on the Adult Handcars. If I ever own a park, that will be one of the first things I have. I am just so happy, I can ride them some where. Is there any other park where you can do this?

After a trip on the Rollo Coaster or what i call Boulder Dash Jr., I decided to go over to the soak zone. If it was a little warmer, I would of liked it more. The Nitro Racers was probably the best water park ride I have seen since the Master Blaster at the now defunct Dinosaur Beach. It seems like you are going so fast when you are inches from the water. I spent a little time in the heated pool and then headed back.

After another ride on Rollo, I decided to head back to Pittsburgh. This is a great little park that should be a must hit for anybody going through PA.
Thanks for sharing. Planning on taking our daughter next Saturday. I know the gates open at ten but what time did the rides start?

Christ how do you kids do it
The park opens at 10 along with Story Book Forest. All of the other sections open at 11. SBF closes at 6. Soak Zone at 7. Jumpin' Jungle at 8. Racoon Lagoon, Mister's Rodger's and Olde Idlewild close at least 9 or later.
I am glad that you had a great time there. Idlewild truly is a beautiful park with all the trees. I think it is a great place for families with smaller children. All of the rides are fairly tame, yet fun.
