IAAPA video (tilt model)

I'll send e-mail out about it in the morning, but if you're interested, I finally uploaded a couple of video clips from IAAPA. Of particular interest is the model of Giovanola's tilt coaster. Enjoy!

Cool vids Jeff. I like the turbo force ride from what I have seen on T.V. because they were showing one already placed at a park(Cant remember which park it was) but by looking at it this ride would create huge lines due to low capacity. Is that Steel Phantom as your intro to your videos? Surprised you would use that coaster due to the fact you dont like it. LOL.

I failed to mention they were in the gallery of the IAAPA section. (Duh.)

Thanks for going to the trouble. Video is more fun and more telling than still photos.

I'm not sure if I completely trust that mechanism moving in two directions while holding the train in place...
The Tilt Coaster looks like it'd be a blast!

You build it, I'll ride it
I know what you are saying Dave, I thought of that too. It will be interesting to see if the model is accurate, or if the real size version pivots and then tilts down.
Is the actually ride design going to be more than a freefall, loop, and turn?

What is life without geniuses?
I'd love to ride it, I just don't want my homepark to build it :P

SOMETHING IS COMING!!!
In 2001 a new *beast* will rise at SFMM.
Is it just me, or does this thing look like it actually tilts past 90 degrees?

Say no, to lap bar nazis!
One word-intense!

It does pass 90 degrees. RideMan theorized (correctly, I assume) that the reason was so that everyone in every row would have a good view straight down.

One of the things that really strikes me when watching the video is how it stops on a dime before the tilt. I wonder if the actual ride will do this, or if it will slow down more before reaching the edge?

That's a scale thing, I think. Notice how quickly it completes the circuit, too. I recently talked with Mike Graham, who built the Soda Jack's model coaster, and commented how fast it seemed to move. He said that you have to consider scale when you look at the speed. Watch the video of his coaster, and you'll be amazed at how quick it is. With a model that size, he says, you would have to reduce gracity to something close to moon gravity.

Anyway, what I'm getting at here is that on a small model like that you can't make the nice gentle squeezing of brakes like you would on a train that's 50 feet long.
