Members of American Coaster Enthusiasts can purchase entry admission at
www.iaapa.org. You have to be a member of an organization that is a member of IAAPA, which ACE is. If memory serves me right, I think it was $100 last year, and the park add on party was an extra $60.
And believe me, when people see "American Coaster Enthusiasts" on your name badge, they generally stop talking to you (they sure the heck did us in Atlanta last year) ... coz they know you're not actually there to buy anything. The CRAPLOADS of free food was nice, however.
Vekoma usually kicks people out of their booth, as well. Of course, we were tearing up their catalogues screaming "NO MORE CLONES! NO MORE CLONES!" ...
Zampela welcomed all, it seems.
And while they don't actually kick you out, asking them "whats coming next!?!!?!" is not only rude, but they won't tell you anyway. The most we got out of CCI was that Six Flags cancelled the CCI at SFAW for 2001, but that's it (and yes, they commented on it first).
You'll notice the lack of people visiting the TOGO and RCCA booths... and if you're not dressed in a suit, most people won't even give you the time of day.
All in all, it's fun. But there are maybe 15 or so flat rides at the midway you can ride... and just like the parks, there was always a line to get on them. There is more to IAAPA than just riding the rides at the midway, however. There is collecting the stuff they hand out (the thing you chewed to brush your teeth without water was interesting). And of course.. the CRAPLOADS of free food.
We did, however, get to meet John Miler.. and that, was Ubercool...
