I scared myself on PKI's flyers....

OK, so I got a slight grasp of the situation during last year's PPP, and learned the basics of snapping on their *slow* machine. Well, we had talked about the flyers at CBCon, and I thought we could use a little "practice" to get it right. Well, I got it right.....and then some. Lopping off branches surrounding the ride, flying high out over the midway, stalling completely in the middle of the ride, then launching again for another extreme "adventure"....low-tech fun RULES!

A guy said to me as I was leaving the last ride "Can I use THAT one?". I told him it was definitely THE tub to use...j/k, LOL. We scared some ride-ops, scared some kids, and I even managed to scare myself on the last spin.....sorry we didn't catch up with the "frequent flyer club" a bit earlier, but we did get in for the last trip with them, and one more after that! I feel like I should've gotten a pilot's license or something.....

Anyone else really "learn to fly" at PKI....CoasterBuzzCon rocked!

what do you mean by fly?

Lesourdsville Lakes Flyers are even better, but it takes a certain knack, Once you figure it out the snappage is even harder.

well, the tubs are controlled by the rider, and with practice, the experience can vary from pleasant and soothing to downright harrowing....:). If you can "stall" the tub in the middle of the ride, the cables will SUDDENLY jerk you forward, the tub will bounce violently, and you will have a great time.....

....bill, still thinking the maintenance guys must have been shaking their heads while watching us.....

Gator, that's the only ride in the park that scares me. My last trip was my first real perfected snapping, and I felt like the tub was going to snap off the cables at the end of each "snap." Good stuff!

One day, someone is going to have to show me what "snapping" is. I've ridden flyers and they are not by my standards a thrilling ride. Perhaps I just need to be around the "right" people.

And before anyone suggests it, NO I will NOT be at Knoebels for PPP. Pick another day and I might show up...:)

Jeremy, there's a phantastic event at Knoebels in October.....

I want to again congratulate those who made that ride ROCK on Sunday! You have all learned well. I am still LMAO at the new ride ops who got proper training on their first day! Knoebels' are so brutal it isn't funny. That wooden bench hurts! There is one thing I miss about KI's, and that is the usual 3 minute cycle!

Rollergator, just by some chance you weren't wearing an orange shirt sunday were you?

I definitely went from a clueless flyer to a more experienced flyer at BuzzCon. I speak on behalf of the coaster trio in saying we miss them sooo much...we even tried snapping the Troika last night at CP ;)

BuzzCon Frequent Flyer, making kids cry all day long

Brad,

I know how to make them snap, but if you remember this year opening weekend (KI) on saturday, when in line for the flyers with you, some one mentioned the trick was moving the steerer fast back and forth not how far or something. I forget exactly what it was. You remember? People keep askin me how I do it. I hafta say I don't know.

lumpy72, let's see...on Sunday I think the theme was: "get 'em while you can", and I *believe* we went with Rampage (and after a quick nap, SFoG's Viper) so, I had on white or light gray...we Floridians know how to dress on hot days...;)...man, those Goth kids must just cook themselves.....ROFL, the price of fashion.....back to subject, my pic is in the profile, scary thing to look at, some 'buzzer even told me they were reminded of Stephen King.

Just remember that I only wear ties at weddings and funerals - guess that's not even always the case, since the Legend Wedding featured only the bride and groom in formal attire. Ties.....wish there was an emoticon for puzzled, quizzical....if you have been to an event recently, you probably saw me in red Mardi Gras beads....hey, I managed to visit a park every day on the vacation (pics only one one day since MiA closed at 4pm...?), so I thought Mardi Gras was....appropriate....

(another shameless plug for my TR goes here.....).....

PkI FaNaTiC, I have found KI's Flyers to work best if you aim for 2 outswings per ride revolution. You'll need to find your own rhythm, but this usually works good. My outswings occur above each of the booths (you can adjust if you wish to snap right above everyone). You won't be able to get it going right away, but as soon as the ride speeds up, start leaning from one side to the other. Wait a few seconds before changing direction, otherwise the tub won't have a chance to get momentum. Again, think of it as a swingset. The higher you go the more slack you'll achieve in the cables. You want to turn your tub as far as possible to catch the most wind. This will slow the tub down, and as the ride gets ahead it will tug at the cables. When done properly you'll feel the tub bounce up a bit before the tug (yes this ride has airtime!), which will sometimes turn out to be a huge snap. It takes practice, and patience. Cracking all 4 cables at once is a great feeling.....

Sometimes you'll only get 1 or 2 good ones, and other times you'll snap on each outswing and inswing! Thank God for the padded seats at KI! The snaps will eventually be predictable, but sometimes others shaking the ride will interrupt the smooth momentum you have built up. With KI's shorter ride cycle right now, its hard to keep the snapping going. It's when the ride slows down, however, that you can sometimes pull a 180ยบ with your tub! Wind and tub weight can be a factor, which is why adults usually go solo. And though we don't try to scare people away, it will happen. All you can do is remind any confrontations that the ride is designed to do that, has survived multiple floods, and is the finest running Flyers around (with a small exception in Elysburg PA). Fly on Pilots!

Arrow Guy HAS the flyers, I can attest......;)...I also try to use the wind direction to take the furthest outswings possible...:):):)
Very nice Arrow Guy! I can snap em every once in a while but you seem to be the expert!

I too went from a clueless flyer to an experienced one. Sitting behind Brad on the Flyers and watching was how I learned. I moved on later that day to some insane snapping on almost every inswing and outswing. I managed to trim those trees as well ;)

Just remember on the Flying Eagles, Number 4 IS mine!

So it was one of you guys at PKI first week of August 2001 who actually hit the curb with your tub ? My daughter and I were standing in line and people about went nuts. Now she wants me to do that and we're doing good to trim the branches. Thanks a lot.
