I need help looking for a otsr restraints

Sunday, July 18, 2021 7:42 AM

I've recently decided I want to make a roller coaster simulator put on a VR headset and it would spin to the direction of coaster. I've done everything except gotten the seat. I have looked almost everywhere online and I cant find anything so if you any suggestions to find a old over the shoulder restraints seat please tell me.

Unless you know somebody in the business, items like this are scrapped and cut up so that there is no way that they can be used again in any form. It's a liability insurance issue.

A race car seat and build the restraints yourself with a pipe bender and some pipe insulation .You can use thin wall tubing if it doesn't actually go upside down a couple of seat belts to lock down harness and you are all set.

Has nothing to do with liability. Parks throw stuff like that away because once it's done being used it's just junk to them. Unless you are Busch Gardens then you just give it away.

I spent nearly forty years in the business, any kind of safety restraint system from a seat belt to OSTR's when no longer safe to use must be made unusable, or outright destroyed. This is from park's safety dept, state inspectors and insurance underwriters. Now I don't doubt that there are operations out there that just send this stuff to the dump, but that's not what they are supposed to do.

Damn, seeing as the useless Big Bad Wolf car went for $8,200, I guess my dreams of driving a motorized log flume boat down the street are going to have to wait a little longer.

Well I haven't spent 40 years in the business, only 20, but from working at small parks up to parks like Cedar Point I have never heard of anyone actually doing what you suggest with common parts like lapbars, wheels, anti-rollbacks, etc. Most are sent to the dumpster, sit in the corner of a warehouse, or are given away. Hell, a lot of parks use the parts you speak of as gifts at coaster events! Even seen parts used as props in Halloween events. They are pretty easy to come by and not even in the backdoor, shady way. Guess it's been a different experience for you at the parks you worked at which is good really but it certainly hasn't been the norm for everyone I know. I could have a used lapbar tomorrow if I wanted one...lol

About 30 years for me and I've never heard of doing that either. If someone finds an OTSR at a junk yard and takes it, designs and builds their own coaster, uses the restraint, it fails, that'd be a pretty hard sell to blame the place that threw it away.

What can I say, CA is a world unto itself. Management had me cutting up junk carousel crankshafts into small pieces before taking them to the salvage yard. It's California....

"Crankshaft" is a better word if you use ButtHead's voice.

That's what you should have led with the first time. The standards in California are a whole other world that the other 49 states can't even begin to touch. I mean CalOsha alone makes me cringe.

"I could get you a lapbar by 3 o'clock this afternoon. With nail polish."
