I have a friend who's scared to go on big coasters

I have a friend who's scared to go on big coasters. I need some help of ways to get him to ride the big coasters. I have taken him to SFgadv and he was close to riding Batman the Ride and Nitro but he didn't. Anyone have some suggestions of ways to get him on the big roller coaster. Please help me!!!

Threaten to kill him. No no, dont do that, just kidding!!

Do the same thing I do to my friends... get around a group of good looking girls, then start calling him a wuss for not riding such and such.... I am pretty sure after his embarresment, he will prove to you AND the girls he has the guts.... ;) hehe, wicked torture!!

Being scared is a natural reaction because it keeps us safe. We all have different fears, i.e., fear of heights, enclosed spaces, fear of people etc.. I'd say there are two solutions: a) ride those rides by yourself while your buddy hangs out at the arcade or b) find another friend to ride with. Forcing someone to do something they don't want to do can be traumatic at its worst. I've been in your shoes recently too, when I tried to get 2Hostyl to ride the Zamperla Turbo Force at SFGAdv. He refused, and I had someone to hold my keys, and take a picture of me.

do what my friend did 2 years ago when i was scared of coasters, he took me to the park (SFGAdv.) and there were 3 of us, i waited in line wiht them so i wouldnt be alone, as they were boarding somehow one got in front of me, one got behind me and pushed me into the harness and closed it, i dint realize i was having so much fun until the mid course brake run. btw it was madusa and great adventure, my first coaster ever.
Get him to ride a ride that goes upside down but isn't all that intimidating. Through the day they will keep on moving up the ranks(if they liked that one ride that is). If that doesn't work, just keep riding the big rides and after you get off make it sound like it was the best thing ever to happen to you. Maybe if they feel left out of the fun, they will decide to ride.

In all honesty, talk him into going on Batman the Ride. It's a small, not-so-intimidating ride that goes upside down and is a lot of fun. In fact, that was the ride that got me started with my coaster obsession three years ago! Just be reassuring, and make sure he's with a group, and somewhere in the middle. Finally, and most importantly, don't give him the opportunity to get off by placing him on the outsides. Keep him in the middle and keep reassuring him. If he gets that far and wimps out, he'll only feel worse...but if he survives (and he will), he'll be a changed man...he'll be one of us! HAHAHAHA!!!!

Tell him it's no worse than Big Thunder Mountain at Walt Disney World. Or tell him that anyone who could get on an Enterprise, Chaos, etc can easily take on Nitro. Hehe. I actually used the above method to get my sister to commit to Jokers Jinx at SFA this comign summer. Hehehehe. Also, point out the individuals who are five to ten years younger than him that are going on the ride and coming out of the exit. A little shaming works too. ;-)

Damn Rob! Why you gotta put me all out on Front Street like that?!?

All that "wuss", "wimp", "mama's boy" crap doesnt work on me. Because, you see, while the one 'macho' guy is out being all brave and stuff, us 'chicken' guys are talking with the ladies who are also too smart to ride ;).

Sorry, Jeremy. I'm just trying to point out that everyone has their limits, and that there's nothing wrong with that. It took me years before I would step foot in one of those cages on a Zipper. And, I did my first skycoaster this year, and it was only a 100ft. Both of those rides scared me really bad. Plus, you've been skydiving right? You wouldn't ever catch me doing that.

Opening day at WOF, my friend will ride Timberwolf for the first time. He's really scared. Good looking girls? Good idea :)

I'll say the same thing I say every time one of these topics comes up. Show him a POV on your computer. The best part about it is, he can see the layout from the first person perspective, but he won't realize the forces and weightlessness on the drops until he's on it. ;)

Jeremy, still heading over to Sonny with me while the rest of these humanoids (bitten from Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) spin and puke to their hearts content on TR:TR?

That's actually a really good idea. Using POV's in the comfort of your living room can help people realize that there's not much to the ride. I mean, if you watch the POV over and over once you get to the ride, you will recognize things and you'll feel more comfortable knowing what's coming. I gotta try that on my friends...

The legend lives!

Well that trick must not work on black people. I showed my friends/family some POV of Hypersonic in action and across the board they said "NOPE! Not Me!". And this included two *mature* enthusiasts (my mom & dad) a more daring steelie loving enthusiast (my sister) a coaster chicken (my next door neighbor Yvette) and a casual "GPer" (Yvette's sister Lisa). Heck, the only people that expressed any interest in the ride were my God-Daughters (lisa's kids). But they are 6 and 4 so they are too small to ride (and too naive to know fear :))

i have a story to tell today, and boy what a funny one! our school went on a trip to sfne for a magazine drive. After lunch, my friend and i went to sros, but our two other friends chickened out and said they'd go on it later. we went on, with a 2 hour wait. when we got back we had to go pretty soon, and we found those two friends. they said the went on cyclone twice, blizzard river three times, and superman once in two hours on a packed day! so i go "hey guys, when you went on superman, did you go on the green train or the purple train?" so then then answer "green". hehehe. we laugh in their faces that they chicken out, oh boy, what a moment. they went on it another day, though.

Batman: The Ride is werid. It just attracts people afraid of coasters. It was my first big coaster, my friends, hi moms, his little sister/brother. I suggest just get him to wait in line and just act like its no big deal. If he goes then one of two things will happen he'll say im never doing that again! Or he'll turn into one of us (hahaha) sorry.
