I Got A Job @ SFoG!!!!

Ah, ok then. Oh btw, I have an update from the park today. I went for processing and had a look around. Normal rehab is going on in all parts of the park, with the Batman trains in about 100 pieces other than the metal frame. Same with Mindbender. I originally though I saw a high striker game knocked over like mother nature finally came along and "gave it a whack" (any of you will get this if your familiar with these infernal machines of nature), but they were just fixing some lights on it. Thunder River's station is receiving a paint job, and some new concrete in is basin. They seem to also be repairing the dead spot where boats get stuck in a more permanent way than the plastic pole that was installed last summer. Acro seemed like it was in a condition that it would be ready to run today as it seems like its rehab is already done. Its always amazing to see the park in this state. It may be sleeping now, but the theme park giant is beginning to stir. So exciting. I have to go to the park the next two saturdays. One more note, the parks theme this year is "Celebration 2003" or something. One of the major events slated is some sort of Mardi Gras style spring break event. Also, it really looks like the park is going all out for Fourth of July. They have also mention recognition of GASM's 30th birthday. Maybe something special is planned for this ride. I certaintly hope so. Hopefully details will be available soon.

Yes they let 16+ operate and be foreman, except at Deja and S:UF. And yes, I am 17.

CTCF maybe since you were 16 last year, then maybe that's why you weren't promoted to foreman. Since I'm 17 like you maybe I'll be put at Asst. Foreman or Foreman. It really doesn't matter to me. I'm just glad to be working @ my favorite place in the world.

A-Rod

Who says I wasnt promoted...They havent told anybody yet... Age does not play into most foreman positions. Its all about your experience and expertise at your ride. They only way to show this to them and show that it is consistent is time. Give it time and I'm sure you'll make a good Foreman in a year or two. Until then, you can op and be an attendant, but there too, you must show experience and expertise at the job, but not as long. If you get a good foreman, and take the job seriously, you may get a good spot as a 3rd incharge or something, however, Asst. Foreman and Foreman (nothing to do with age again) are usually people that have been there 1+ years in most cases. Sometime this week I should find out what the status is in my case on the park this year.

My first season (2001) I worked as an attendent, then I transferred and drove the steam engine for a while.

In 2002 I came back as a foreman at GASM (CtCF was on my crew). Then I was moved to Monster Plantation and finally Log Flume... although it doesn't seems like it, that is a ride with more responsiblity than GASM or MP).

Late in '02 I moved into an office job. But sadly I will not be returning to the park in '03. Graduating college soon, ya know...

Anyway foremen are selected by the park. It took me 1 season to become a foreman, and I'd say that's about average... and I was 22! You may be able to become the asst. foreman at your ride, though. They are made a few weeks after the park opens. Also, you can always become a certified operator (in-charge) at pretty much any ride... but you won't have the title of foreman or the neat red tag.

As always remember the coolest rides aren't always the most fun to work at; noncoaster rides are more fun to work at than coasters.

EDIT: correct spelling

Maybe they will run GASM backwards like they used to do sometimes, i dont know, sounds like it would be fun

Hey everyone! I also worked at the park last year and i'm a good friend of CTCF. Last year was my first year and I was one of the people on the original Superman crew. Everything Chris said is absolutely true. It's not easy to become a Foreman or Asst. Foreman or an in-charge. It requires skill, patience, and experience. However, I did become an Asst. Foreman during my first year at the park. I was at Superman for the first 6 months before being promoted to third in-charge at another ride. Then I remained there for about 2 months until being promoted to Asst. Foreman at another ride. So it is possible to get up the chain, but it requires really hard work. You can't just decide you want to be a Foreman , because if that was the case, everyone would be one. You have to be selected after thorough thought and planning of the supervisors. You have to show responsibility, diligence, firmness, and the ability to give orders. So good luck, XMTH. I am also waiting with CTCF to see what my status will be at the beginning of the season, because just cause you may be a foreman one year, doesn't mean you will be one the next, although your chances may be fairly high.

Not you Chris, I meant Chris... Can't you tell the difference?!?!?!?!?!?!? haha

Hey, what is a foreman? Why are you people so negative?

Pointless emphasis is severly frowned upon here in the wonderful land of Cbuzz. ;)

Tim, I tried that over at SOB, and we had one of the best years keeping it up. Now that Im going to TRTR, my luck will probabily follow and that will never go down!

.....Yeah, I think that smoke is supposed to be there.....

I think working a ride that breaks down a lot is no fun to work. I like to stay busy. Also people get mad @ the workers for not opening the ride.

Alex

Alex,

That's a really great attitude to have! When I was a ride op, I felt the same way. I hated when the ride broke down - people get upset, and you're really not doing much, just kinda walking around slowly.

For me, checking restraints, speiling, and overall guest interaction was what made my four years as a ride op the best!

From one former ride op to a future ride op... make sure that you ALWAYS pay attention to safety first and foremost. It is always good to have fun, just be careful... ride ops have a lot of responsibility. I saw and had some close calls.

Yes. Always think safety first. I always found that if you are not having fun in your posistion, see if you can make someones day. Like one rainy day, I was over at Reptar, and there was one little girl and her parents in the station. Instead of thinking, "Man, this is boring" I started playing with the little girl (the ride was shut down for bad weather). Anyway, I made the little girls day. Its things like that that really makes ya like your job.

You can stay busy when a ride is down, there is always some cleaning that can be done. :)

Oh joy! Cleaning. Gotta love how you can clean a station and que house all day and it'll still be dirty. Those things reproduce trash or something. Oh btw X marks the spot, just making sure you don't mind trash juices, pulling trash, sweeping, and vomit cleanup. I really didnt think about these being in the job description other than the vomit when I started, but you will see that cleaning is very important in rides.
