HyperSonic XLC Troubles!

My friend and I were at PKD today. We got there at 9:00 and walked around a little before the attractions were opened. 50 Minutes before the rides opened, we waited for the closest area for the HyperSonic.

Eventually, we were in line. After waiting 2 1/2 Hours in line, IT BROKE! We got out of line, like many others, after 30 minutes.

Once we returned to that area, 2 1/2 hours later, it finally reopened. Some enthusiasts actually waited there during that time. We were up on the Grizzly when we saw the ride opened.

WHAT LUCK! Was anyone else there when the ride broke down? We might go back tomorrow and just ride the HyperSonic XLC.

Also, if you did ride it, please let us know how it was, I can't wait to ride! :D

I was there, it just was only running for about 3 hrs. than it broke! i was soo pissed! If you notice the paint was starting to scrap away when the train went by...haha i found that funny....I went to see my gurl dance, so during the awards we tried to snag Hypersonic, but it was still closed...Volcano wasnt a long wait though..

Drachen Fire, Will it be swimming with the fishies?
Broke twice when I was there yesterday. Once during the middle of the day, and once close to the end. What can I say? New ride glitches. Atleast its better than the Volcano situation of 3 years ago.;) HXLC id open, sort of.

It's a prototype ride. S&S and coasters aren't exactly synonymous yet. While I understand people's enthusiasm for this coaster, I don't know if it was so smart to go opening weekend.
Was the new FX Theatre films open? Were they fun? Did they have anything else new?
I passed them on the run to try to ride H:xlc

The, Smash Factory film wont be open until May. The 7th portal flick though was very good. Also, they have (re)installed a set of flyers back near Grizzly. Flight of Fear was still closed so the 'restraint mystery' will endure a little while longer.

BTW: H:XLC was all that!
I'll be posting a full trip report later, when I have more time.

Yes, Hypersonic broke down at least twice on opening day. That didn't prevent WildOne, 2Hostyl, my brother, and myself from getting a mid-afternoon ride. When we got on they were telling us "2-3 hours", but we were off in just over an hour.

7th Portal is VERY impressive.

We got 2 rides on Hypersonic Saturday with about an hour wait each time.

Incredible ride in a class of it's own.

7th Portal was great. On Sunday, it opened early so we were first to ride.

Even Better:

I GOT TO RIDE HYPERSONIC! We were the on the 2nd Train of the day. It is flat out the best coaster I've ever ridden.

10/10

We got to ride twice! I'm going to ride that a lot more, believe me!

I got a couple XLC rides on Sunday March 25. The lines averaged 1 to 1.5 hours or so.

In the middle of the afternoon, I saw the darn thing ROLL BACK! It launched, made it MOST of the way up the vertical climb, then came back down. (Think Superman at SFMM)

After about a 12 minute delay, the ride was back up and running again. Acording to the ride operators, this has happened before and will probably happen again. But they sure took care of it quickly so I am not worried.

For the first weekend of operation, the team at PKD did a great job dispatching the train and kept the line moving well.

Rolling back sounds like fun to me. Besides, you'd probably get 2 launches for the price of one!

I was on the ride right before the rollback on the 25th. I was standing at the exit and had a great view of the whole thing. First, I'll explain for those who don't know that the launch is accomplished by a bar that hooks onto the bottom of the lead car. The bar is connected onto a cable-basically it's the same mechanism as the space shot, but horizonal instead of vertical. Normally, once the train is latched onto the bar, there is about a two second delay, then ZOOM! On the rollback, the train sat for about 30-60 seconds. It then launched, and I watched as it shot up the hill. The front car crested, but then that was it. It then rolled back. I agree with Joel-think Superman. There are trim brakes on the upside of the hill which did slow it a little, but you don't want the train to stop on the hill since there's no way to disembark- so it rolled back down all the way. The area in between the scale section and launch section of the ride is the roll back brake run. The ride came safely and smoothly to a halt before the scale, so had there been another train on the track, there would have been no chance for a collision. I must admit-it was darn cool to see!

On Danimation there is an interview with Stan Checketts and he says that it can be programed to throw in a roll-back every once in a while. So don't be suprised to see it happen, although this one seemed unintentional. I'm just curious to what happens with three trains on the track and there is a roll-back.
