Hypersonic Question...

Saturday, June 2, 2001 3:16 PM
On Extreme Rides 2001, I noticed that when the train lanuched, "smoke"(I guess thats what you would call it) appeared. Is that the air being released or is it because the train is going so fast? Thanks.

Air being released. I have seen more come out at certain times.

It couldn't have been pure air, since air cannot be seen. It's probably condensed water (very little) forced out from the pressured chambers or any other small piece of matter or gas.

You are right that air can't be seen, but that air has been EXTREMELY compressed and is all the sudden released, and forced to expand rapidly.

It's air from the compresstion.

You can see that same white mist every once in a while come out on an S&S Space Shot.

It may be from dust in the air. Maybe the air just blew up around.
