Hulk closed for a while?

"IOA's Hulk to be Closed For Maintenance
Type: News 2nd September 2001

B&M's Incredible Hulk will be closing for a short while soon so the guys at B&M Engineering can have a look at it and check that the three year old ride, which hasn't had a single brake-down, rollback or accident since it was built, continues to uphold it's gleaming reputation."

Does anybody know how long this will be going on?

There was a crack in the Cobra Roll, don't know if it has been fixed yet, but that might be the reason for the maintenance shutdown.  It went down for three days a little earlier in the summer to have that checked out.  That was a little while after Ice went down.
Where did this news come from, anyway?  I know of a couple breakdowns the ride has had, including not quite making it through the whole launch phase...

I would say not too long.  It makes sense, though.  Most parks are seasonal, and therefore are closed for a majority of the year or only operate on weekends for some of the year.  This allows for the coasters to be fully inspected and almost have a sort of "tune-up".  Considering IOA is open year round, they don't have the same opportunities to perform these check-ups.

Here in FL, and those in SoCal, should be used to this type of thing by now.  Just in Florida over the past year, Montu, Kumba, Ice, now Hulk have been down for some period of time.  To the best of my knowledge, all have come back in a reasonably short period of time and improved for the work done.  Coasting 365 days X too many trips X no maintenance makes for a potential serious breakdown.  Luckily our parks do "preventive maintenance" and our rides stay great!

Hulk was down last month for portions to be repainted. Universal tells me it won't be down too long this time.
