Huge Ferris wheel coming to Vegas strip with new resort

The Clark County Commission on Wednesday approved a plan for a 50-story hotel and timeshare development anchored by a 12-story Ferris wheel and a man-made lake on the Las Vegas Strip. The wheel will be 560 feet tall and cost $100 million to build.

"One slow rotation in a state-of-the-art vehicle will last 27 minutes and will travel at 0.652 MPH or 0.9567 feet per second with an average ticket price of $18.00. A family of 5 can enjoy the once-in-a-life-time experience for less than $100.00"

Man, that is expensive! I guess it's still a better deal the Manhattan Express though.

The London Eye in Central London is 442ft high.

135 metres above the London skyline - you'll be twice the height of the famous Prater Wheel in Vienna and 30 metres higher than the previous tallest observation wheel in Yokohama Bay. (London Eye)

$18.00?? A tad expensive for a half an hour. Then again, low capacity plug high maintenance costs make that seem a little more realistic.

It's vegas man they charge what they think they can get away with, if you decide to gamble or ride the wheel instead either way they are seperating you from your money, Vegas doesn't really care how it gets your money as long as it does.

I believe the London Eye is more expensive (in US funds). It's $10.50 lbs, but I'm not sure of the exchange rate. I know the cars on London Eye hold quite a few people (more than a family of 5). Although probably not the same kind of view you can get from the top of the Strat, I'll bet the views of the strip at night would be worth it.

28 minutes!?!?!?! The Navy Pier wheel, at only five or six minutes, gets pretty boring towards the end. I can't imagine spending a half hour on a ferris wheel. I'll just go to the Stratosphere and be at the full height for the entire visit, and get a nice thrill ride, to boot.

The comment on "Vegas taking your money anyway it can" is correct! $10.00 to ride "Manhurtin" Express! (Sorry Westcoaster). Where else are you gonna pay that kind of money for one ride on a coaster! That's why 'Vegas is 'Vegas baby! Will Wet & Wild relocate somewhere else in 'Vegas? That place seems to do very well in triple digit weather 'Vegas is noted for, and sad for those who can't afford to stay at Mandlay Bay that has it's own water park only for it's guests.

I was just in Vegas and Manahattan Express is $12 - in comparison the $18 for a 30 minute Ferris Wheel ride is a bargain. Heck, it'll cost you $17 for one ride on Big Shot & High Roller. Even Speed is $8 for a single ride.

The price seems right in line for Las Vegas.

Thanks for the update on the 'Vegas attractions. Come to think of it it's been over a year since I was in "glitter gulch". The $17 bucks covers the elevator ride up and down the tower plus the two rides? Last there I believe extra rides on Big Shot and High Roller were 4 dollars apiece. $18 to ride the wheel does seem right. Circus Circus' Grand Slam Canyon is a pretty good deal too with an all day pass. But seeing Wet & Wild go will be a blow to families in summertime.
Speed gives you two rides for that 8 bucks though.

Having ridden the Hep5 wheel in Osaka, which is 110 meters, this will be scary folks. That is a LONG way up. Given how expensive other attractions are in LV, $18 isn't half bad, but it is a lot to go around on something, where the Stratosphere is the same price, and you can stay up there all day (and ride the Big Shot!!!)
