You have to be invited. As I understand it, that is the only "requirement."

I say go for the Public Access thing. If you have a good computer with a nice Video editing suite (such as Final Cut Pro for Mac, with one of those DVD-R "SuperDrives"), and a nice DV cam (your public access studio most likely loans these out to you for free, with a deposit of course), you could probably put together a great show. Unfortunately, it will be hard to near impossable to get "official" & original on-ride footage. But you could easily chronicle the building of a coaster with a nice digicam, and some morphing software. Just measure from a fixed point and take the pictures on a tripod from the exact same location every few days. Then morph the pictures together. It'll almost be as good as doing a time lapse video. You could do that too, but you'd have to live near the park, with a good view from your house or something. Make something impressive, and edit it nicely then submit it to the park. Not only might you get invited to Media Day, but if you are really lucky, they might let you take a camera on ride. Just an idea...
Man, this is making me wish I lived closer to Chicago, so I could do something like this for SFGAm's 2003 ride, whatever it is going to be (Flyer, I'm almost positive, but a clone of S:UF or not...sources say yes, but after the Whizzer change, ANYthing is possible. I'm expecting some surprises).

I know... work for the media. That's always a good way to get invited to a media day.

I know when SFEG opened TFC this year, there were some staff members that were there on media day and got to ride it. I think it was because they were getting trained on it though.

Even better yet, I have access to airtime at my local Public Station.
Is it worth me putting all this time and effort into a possible attempt to get invited to Media Day? I think not.
Just my input, But media days are not that special...

Very true James K. Case in point would be V2 at SFGAm. The coaster ended up opening to the public a week before the media day for it.

Ric Flair was hitting on the female host, he told her - "Space Mountain may be the oldest ride in the park, but it has the longest line." WOOOOO!

Maybe not JUST to get into Media Day, but if you love coasters, want to do something cool and productive, which involves coasters, and gain valuable experience with video production, AND possibly get invited to Media Day or who knows, maybe even start a career in video production, then it would easily be worth all the time and effort.
It would definitely be a better waste of time than surfing the web. ;)

Media days aren't that great. (I've been to a few) It isn't some magic ERT party! :)

Eh, out of the four media days I've attending (Raging Bull, Cornball Express, Wicked Twister, and Superman Ultimate Flight) I can certainly say they *are* ERT parties...:)
Raging Bull - 25 rides
Cornball - over 20
Wicked Twister - 36 rides
Superman Ultimate Flight - 25 rides
As you can see, that's more rides than you'll get on almost every operating day at a park. Not to mention I did interviews and ate and sat around at most of those media days.
JC, who would *love* to go to CP's Media Day for the unannounced Intamin Jungle Gym!
