How far??... Pennsylvania parks and SFGAdv?

I don't know how accurate Expedia and MapQuest is, since they could be counting more or less time depending on direction, construction, or anything out of the norm, so I was wondering:

What is the driving time between...

PKI to Kennywood?
Kennywood to Hershey?
Hershey to Knoeble's/ Dorney?
Dorney/Knoeble's to SFGAdv?
SFA to closest park mentioned above?

Thank you very, very much!

Don't know the time, so just drive faster ;)

My crystal ball (or rcdb ;) ) says that the distance from:

PKI to Kennywood is 243 miles,

Kennywood to Hershy is 168 miles,

Hershy to Knoeble's is 41 miles, Hershy to Dorner is 62 miles,

Dorney to SFGAdv is 64 miles, Knoebles to SFGAdv is 119 miles.

One helluva coaster trip :)

Don't use RCDB - those aren't driving distances. Mapquest is pretty acturate for milage but their times seem to be high (for me at least, but I'm not exactly light on the gas pedal)

Kennywood to Hershey - 213 miles

Hershey to Dorney - 66 miles (took us an hour this past December)

Dorney to SFGAdv - 101 miles

As far as Knobel's goes, it's kind of out of the way (at least in the complete opposite direction of SFA)

SFA is:

182 miles from SFGAdv

176 miles from Dorney

126 miles from Hershey

I guess the route you want to take is up to you. I'm more of a "drive in a circle" kinda guy.

I'd probably do Kennywood, Dorney, SFGadv, SFA, and back around to Hershey then back to Kennywood (assuming that's your starting point)

Mapquest is great. I used it to plan our June trip (SFNE, Lake Compounce, Coney Island, A few Jersey Piers, Morey's, SFGAdv) - we'll be able to do it in 5 days starting and ending in Allentown. Mapquest was an incredible resource for working out driving distances/times and details.

PKI to Kennywood is about 5 hours.

Kennywood to Hershey is 4 to 4.5 hours.

Hershey to Knoebel's is a little over an hour.

Hershey to Dorney about 1.5 hours.

Can't help you with the last one.

I live in the Pittsburgh area and are planning a similar trip this summer minus SFAdv so I've done my homework on this.

When Gregleg comes back from his trip to PKD this weekend, he might be able to help you a little more since he did a Hershey, Knoebel's, Dorney, and SFGAdv trip last year and lives near Kennywood.

the thing to remember is that PA is a WIDE state, a loooong distance East-West, and that KG, while a fantastic traditional park, could not be any further from any major roads...

KW is far west, Lakemont is more Central (threw that in), and the other parks mentioned are Eastern PA/NJ. Remember, there's a lot of smaller parks in PA. As mentioned, rcdb and mapquest are great sites for planning coaster trips...(which I hope we can do today)....;)

The above times are as good as any I could give. Of the parks mentioned, only 3 are really "close" to each other... Hershey, Dorney and Knoebels.

Rollergator mentioned Lakemont in Altoona (historic Leap the Dips, fun SkyLiner and odd little Mad Mouse) and just north of there (about 10 miles) is DelGrosso's in Tiptoon (but will only find a Zylkon there). Altoona is not that far out of the way when travelling from Kennywood to Hershey. The other year we left West Mifflin (Kennywood) at around 9am, were at Lakemont when it opened at noon, spent three hours there, and then made to Hershey in plenty of time for the hockey game which started at 7pm.

Not trying to build up the "old home park", but if you use Hershey as a point of reference, you are in good distance to a few parks with mentionable coasters... Knoebels is around an hour and a half to the north, Dorney is an hour and a half to the east, Williamsgrove (home of the rickety old ACE classic Cyclone) is around half an hour west, and Dutch Wonderland (where you will find CCI's first coaster, SkyPrincess... small but fun) is about 45 minutes to the south.

Like said above, PA is a farily large state. It is easy to say that "all of these parks are in PA so let's go to them all!" Not quite that easy. Kennywood and Conneaut Lake, while in PA, are actually more in the same "neighborhood" with SFWoA in Ohio than they are with the parks in the eastern part of PA.

Also, the closest park mentioned above to SFA is Hershey. Not only is it closest, it is also a very easy drive.

Ok, how's this for a circuit? :)

Since you mentioned PKI, I'll start there:

PKI -- Kennywood (~4.5 hours)

Kennywood -- Lakemont (~2 hours)

Lakemont -- DelGrosso's (~15 minutes ;) )

DelGrosso's -- Knoebel's (~2 hours)

Knoebel's -- Dorney (~90 mins)

Dorney -- SFGAdv (~2 hours)

SFGAdv -- SFA (~3 hours)

SFA -- Dutch Wonderland (~2 hours)

Dutch Wonderland -- Hershey (~45 mins)

Hershey -- Kennywood (~4 hours)

Kennywood -- PKI (~4.5 hours)

There are plenty of other places to hit (Morey's Piers, Idlewild) if you'd be so inclined, but I think the above is already insane enough :)
