How do you act toward the GP?

We ARE the GP! We might know a little more about coasters, but unless we work for the park, we are still a part of the general public. Sometimes it seems like that term gets thrown around here like it's a lower form of life.

It's been said before here...to belch out unsolicited facts to a complete stranger for no other reason than to make yourself look better crosses the line between enthusiast and enthusiass.

Phwew, let me get off my soapbox - sorry, I just get passionate about things like that I guess.

So let me tell you about the time Millenium Force went off the track and crashed into FrontierTown... :)

^^hahaha Respect!

Millenium Force crashing into Frontier Town wasn't half as bad as the time one of the Power Tower carriages flew off the top of the tower and caused the death of 32 nuns who were visiting CP that day...:)

I find it funny every time I go to IOA, I spend some time at the HULK on ride photo pick up and listen to people say, Can you believe that coaster just shoots you out like that, I wasn't expecting that at all dude. Part of me wants to say, How did you not notice a clank, clank, clank, lift hill, and did you see the 6 ton roller coaster come shooting out of that inclined tunnel as you walked up to the ride. But I say nothing and just enjoy the fact that everyone loves this ride. Maybe that surprise people find on that ride is why it gets rated #1 steel coaster????
I live in an area where there are very few coaster enthusiasts(and coasters)around.I only know two other enthusiasts personally, one who happens to post on this site.Usually ,when I go to a park,I will wear something amusement park related, such as a t-shirt.If someone asks me about a park or coaster,I am happy to answer their question,if I can,but I don't drown people with coaster trivia that they could care less about. This site is where I go to talk about coasters.

Lets' save the Vancouver PNE Coaster before its'too late!

Whether or not any of us like to admit it, at some point (even if it was at a very early age) we were all just as uninformed as the "GP". Until I was fortunate enough to meet some of my friends up here at college who completed my initiation, I made a quite a few of the same mistakes that were being ridiculed in this chamber. I still do from time to time. My attitude toward my fellow riders at parks is to keep my opinions to myself unless they are invited. Except for if I hear someone making a ludicrous story about deaths on a roller coaster.

Sanders, quick question....is that your website???

No, I just found it humourously satirical. And that It promotes racial integration. I am not sally nor am I johnny.

If I'm at a park and in line while a coaster has a small breakdown, people near me in line usually say, "I'm not going on this ride, its not safe, it keeps breaking down". Most of the time I try not to butt in but I usally mention to these people that most of the breakdowns are computer related so it is usually the computer stopping the ride for safety reasons.

I also work with many people who make very incorrect statements about roller coasters. When most of the employees went on a trip to SFA (my home park) they all came back and asked me different questions about most of the rides because they assume I'm a coaster genius. The only thing that made me mad is this one girl went on most of the steel coasters and Roar, but did not ride Wild One because one of her friends said it was too old and not safe. When she returned I assured her that the ride is safe and has been changed so much over time that the fact that it is 85 years old does not make it unsafe. I told her she missed out on one great wooden coaster.

I run into people like this most of the time in parks, but I usually correct people when they make drastically false statements. I try hard not to sound like a coaster dork but it is so tempting to argue with a 13 year old who claims "Superman (SROS at SFA) sucks because it is too slow and doesn't go upside down"!
