How do LIM/LSM motors work?

In speech class, we were assigned a process speech in which we need to teach the class how something works that we have background information on and the class will usually know very little about. My first choice is to tell them the best seats in all different rides depending on whether they want to wait/ prefere a good view/ prefer the best ride on all different types of rides. However, I don't think my speech teacher will approve that, I have to have a back up topic.

So my second choice is how LIM/LSM motors work. After doing a search on howstuffworks.com I can't find a darned thing on it. I know the jyst of it but probably need correct terms as well as non-motion diagrams (no film/powerpoint is allowed because it will add time to your speech which he wants to avoid) Does anybody know where I can get good information on this? I know sites have a few short descriptions on it, that isn't enough.

Thanks in advance!

Dave Althoff's site.

Is it about coasters or friends? I say both!

Agreed, Dave's site is the best place to look. You may also want to look at the sites for some of the companies that make linear motors such www.force.co.uk
