How did Cedar Point get its name?

I tried to find this out on the official site & GTTP, no luck. I assume the point was covered with cedar trees before the park was built.

I am pretty sure you are correct, but we're talking a long time ago!  The park is around 110 years old and people were on the beach there before there even was a CP...the best of the old and the new.  I heard somewhere that the football play, the "forward pass" was actually conceived on the beach there.  Pretty newfangled stuff they got there..LOL!

I remember hearing exactly what you said, Taipan. The vast land was covered with cedar trees... and the rest is history!

it came from this, found it in a book yesterday

The Peninsula is shaped like a point, and it used to be heavily wooded with cedar trees, so thats how it got its name

You do know that the peninsula was always called Cedar Point, and the park just used that name right?  Or are you wondering how long ago the actual peninsula got its name?

Trees works for me, and it's nice that some parks retain history in their names, rather than more generic thrill-oriented terms.
