Houston Help

Hello all. I'm headed to Texas in June for a little coaster trip, and I'd like some help from the locals about the Houston area.

We're flying in to Houston on June 16 (Saturday morning). Does anyone know if/when the Kemah Boardwalk Bullet will be open? Also, are there any other small parks in the Houston area that are worth stopping by? It's a shame that Astroworld was closed before I got to make it there. Thanks in advance!

I doubt the Bullet will be ready by then.

Wouldn't be too hopeful on the Bullet being ready to roll by then.

The only other thing in the area I know of is a Zuma Fun Center. Not sure if that's really worth stopping by unless you're a total credit whore.

Thanks for the replies. The Bullet not open by then? Who do they think they are--Knoebels in 1999?! :)

Nah Gonch, I'm not quite that much of a credit whore :)

Ok, so, isn't Joyland near San Antonio? Is that worth stopping by?

mmm... A Quick Google Maps check says Joyland Lubbock, TX is in the the North Eastern Part of the State.

A day at the park is what you make it!

Hmm...for some reason, I thought it was near San Antonio. Is there another small park near SA? We're already planning on going to SWT and SFFT, but is there a small park near SA that I'm thinking of?--Maybe the place that the Phoenix came from.

Lubbock is in the Northwest corner of the state, south of Amarillo.

The Phoenix was moved from Playland, because that park closed in 1980.

There is a kiddie park in San Antonio with a Herschell Little Dipper.

^ Adults can't ride the Herschell at Kiddie Park of San Antonio. Learned that the hard way, LOL.

Joyland, in the western part of the lower panhandle, will soon ('08) be home to THE ultimate Anton launch coaster.... :)

Hey....there is a six flags park.....errrr, nevermind.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I tried to get the Zuma coaster credit but was denied. They said no adults (unless accompanied by a child I believe). Never hurts to try though.

I doubt Bullet will be open by mid June as well. I'm nervous it won't be open even by the time of my planned July 4th trip. Might have to do some trip rearranging to August. :(

Been here for 45 years. Here's your local report. Not a coaster or park in site. AstroWorld was the last.

The kemah coaster is a long ways away from finishing. Perhaps late June soft opening if all goes well. So in a nut shell forget any rides. Change your plans to waterpark, Schilterbuan in Galveston. It's only an hour away. Right next door to Moody Gardens another fun place. *** Edited 5/23/2007 1:46:49 PM UTC by Markieb***

You might want to start rearranging that trip....

While the ride MIGHT be ready by July 4th, I think it's a pretty big risk to take if riding Bullet is one of the goals of your trip. We are about to enter one of the wetter months in this area and even this week has a 50-50 chance of thunderstorms and rain all week (and it has already rained the last 2 days for at least part of the day).

Jason...I'm enjoying your photos very much. Thanks for keeping us all up to date on the progress.

Question...I can't remember if this has been answered before, but has the Bullet rolling stock arrived on site yet? I'm still tryig to get a feel for how much is left to finish.

Glad you are enjoying the photos...I enjoy taking them and seeing this ride go up.

Have not see the rolling stock on site...I've been keeping an eye out for it when I'm down there.
