Hopes ride on Mission: Space at Epcot

Posted | Contributed by Chernabog

Disney's new Mission: Space was built to become an instant classic, a one-of-a-kind thrill ride people would tell their friends about and want to ride again and again. Disney officials hope the new $100 million ride will help boost attendance that has been sagging for two years now.

Take note of this paragraph near the bottom of the article:

"And a roller coaster called Expedition Everest is planned for Animal Kingdom in 2006. Its top speed will be just 55 miles per hour -- less than half the speed of the new Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point park in Ohio -- but Disney's "Imagineers" are touting the ride's drops and sharp turns."

Is this the first detailed mention of this coaster?

Nope... it has come up.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

Expedition Everest: Legend of the Yeti also goes backward, while CP's Top Thrill Dragster does n- Oh, never mind.

Two days and counting until I get a crack at Mission: Space. Do I have to turn in my thrill-seeking wings if this ride makes me sick? Add Gravitrons (but not Orbitrons) to the list of things I really don't like -- along with loud noises and imperfect pancakes.

"I don't know," son Colin said, looking bored. "It was all right."

Maybe Disney should just stick to the kiddie rides.

Well, Rock 'N RollerCoaster and Tower of Terror are no kiddie rides. Both are excellent, in my opinion. I like Disney because it isn't Six Flags. I like Six Flags because it isn't Disney.

There is room for both.

Just drop the bias, this is REALLY a great ride. I've done this many times. I'm sick of the kiddie rides idea. I have more of a thrill on Haunted Mansion or Kilomanjaro than on some big coasters.

BTW Maddie, you'll do fine. Just don't eat big before the ride, keep your head back, watch the screen, and you'll do fine.

Bias, what bias, my name is IOArules, so what. ;)

A ride where you strictly HAVE to keep your head back and watch the screen to not get sick is asking for trouble. I feel really bad for the cast members working this ride when it starts getting really busy. Plus whats the point of having objectives to complete if they don't even affect the outcome of the ride?

Well, to make the ride a little more fun. Would you rather just sit there like on Star Wars, or have a little more fun pressing buttons. I'm just confused why they even mentioned Top Thrill with Expedition: Everest. Top Thrill is a speed ride, Everest is whole other experience.
A new ride based on the success of their new Pirates of the Caribbean movie should be a no-braine... Wait, that one happened the other way around, right? ;)

Where's my Soarin' Over Monstropolis and Nemo's Underwater Adventure Ride already??

Mission: Space has been getting glowing reviews from park and Disney enthusiasts I've talked to, so hopefully it will be something word-of-mouth can bring back to Disney. If the rumors are true that their hand-drawn animation dept. is being shut down, it would be nice if something was holding them up besides Pixar's works even if POTC and Freaky Friday are doing quite well at the Box Office.

Now everyone's interested. When I posted a topic about Mission: Space, nobody replied. I'm looking foward to this and Everest whenever I'm in Florida again.

How about this: ride it and THEN post your opinion. Since I have ridden it three times, I can honestly say it is an incredible experience. So don't believe what a little kid says. Believe it when you experience it!

The Walt Disney Co. is loaded. They have a lot more $$$$ than Cedar Fair. I know their all for the family, but they need to stop being wimps and build something huge.

Mission:SPACE was great. With that and Test Track right next door, Epcot is now way better than before. I think they should now replace everything in the pavillion next door (w/ Body Wars in it?) and make it something killer. Or replace Spaceship Earth with some crazy state-of-the-art thrill ride. I've heard of this occuring. Spaceship Earth, Body Wars and Cranium Command are wicked dated and need replacements. I'm just hoping that their attendence and profit bounce back up.
