Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will permanently close on Aug. 18 to make way for a new experience, according to Universal's website.

Read more from Spectrum News 13/Orlando.

Permanently closed Rip Rockit > Rip Rockit.

Was looking forward to the “>” comments. First one did not disappoint.

I think they already started construction. There are walls blocking off a chunk of City Walk between Universal's exit and Hard Rock.

Oddly enough, this would be the third best coaster at Dorney.

RRR Melted Down And Recycled Into Numerous Washing Machines > RRR

My $5 is on Fast & Furious New York Drift… I still would prefer a Ghostbusters version of the same ride system, but it’s 2025.

Hard to bet against Fast & Furious given USH's impending installation. It also solves the god-awful Supercharged disaster! (see what I did there?)

Most likely out come is F&F coaster, Ghostbusters meet and greet, and the opportunity to redo the big box in the San Fran section.

For whatever reason, the nostalgia for Ghostbusters is off the chart (as well as for Back to the Future and Jaws). It's really strange given the horrible box office of the last films, including the Paul Rudd stupidity from last year) Whatever Universal did for their fan night in Hollywood and the Mega Movie parade in Florida, they absolutely unleashed a wave of nostalgia for those properties. Whether that is a quick spike, or something more lasting is anyone's guess. Certainly those are known properties (unsure if they really resonate with my fellow youths), but Boomers and Gen Xers lost their minds over them this year.

The only problem I see is that USO and IOA have way too many spots to redo. San Fran, Simpsons land, Lost Continent, Toon Lagoon and Fear Factor/Men in Black are gaping holes for redevelopment, and that assumes that Marvel Super Hero Island doesn't get forced into a retheme. (And yes we're ignoring E.T. and that VERY temporary feeling Dreamworks reskin).

That's a lot of money and a lot of IP's that have to be developed. With Sony owning Ghostbusters, I'm not sure that a ride (with the 20+ year life/royalty obligation) is in the cards.
