While looking at the events for the summer, i noticed that Coaster Campout at CP and Holiwood nights overlap. I have never been to either and was wondering which one is a better option (I hope to do both within the next few years regardless). Holiwood nights definitely sounds cooler, but is more money, further away, and i can't use my Platinum Pass. Thoughts?
Thunderbird, Voyage, Legend, Raven, Splashin' Safari, food and ERT galore at one of the best staffed parks in the country.
vs.
Sleeping on the cold hard ground (or cement) and showering god knows where. Or not showering at all.
No question in my mind.
Ben,
Have you thought about doing Coastermania? It's on June 5th this year, and that way you could do both Cedar Point and Holiday World.
I admit that I'm not really familiar with Coaster Campout, but if you're not too particular about the specifics you wouldn't really have to decide.
Holiwood Nights is definitely a great event that you should do at some point even if it doesn't turn out to be this year.
I don't think going to both is really an option for this year at least, however cool it would be. RCMAC, the most intriguing thing about CC to me is being able to camp in the park and hang out with other people that love CP as much as i do. Holiwood nights does sound incredible, but comes at a higher price and without lodging that just adds more cost.
Ok then.
I still know which one I'd pick.
p.s. nobody loves Cedar Point more than I do...
I've never done an event at CP, but the one time I did HWN it was epic. Voyage in the pitch black is something to be experienced at least once. I don't know if Thunderbird will affect the darkness on the Voyage, but I have to believe it will improve the over experience.

There are still lots of trees back there and the path doesn't come too close. Imagine seeing gatekeeper in patch black.
And coasterzombie, don't get your camping shorts in a bunch, it's just my opinion.
I will, however, rebutt your argument for a sec.
1) no I don't.
2) no I don't.
3) because I say HW is one of the best staffed parks in the country doesn't imply I mean there's any problem with your folks at Cedar Point, whatsoever. They can both be full of helpful, attentive, and friendly people, can't they? And I'm sure each park has planned a lovely event.
However, and here's where I draw a distinct comparison, (it was a comparison question after all, right?) grass, cement, tent, sleeping bag, and comfy don't belong in the same sentence. And trailer showers? I'm not even sure what that is and I'm pretty sure I don't want to know.
And so, if I'm uncomfortable with any or all of these things you want me to attend a camping event and stay in a hotel just so I can get ERT on rides I've ridden a thousand times in a park I've stayed overnight in hundreds of times?
And ok, maybe it's just me thinking that kind of event doesn't sound all that special. But for me, my money will be on Holiday World that weekend if I go anywhere at all. And thanks for asking.

Keep in mind that if you really want to do Holiday World in the context of an event, we also have the Fall Affair on August 29. Details forthcoming.

I guess being new to the club i never thought of that Jeff, thanks. Ill keep a eye out to see what August 29th may bring.
RCMAC, i can absolutely see your point about CC, but being the young guy I am I'm probably stupid enough to try it once, ride some coasters with a sore back from sleeping on the ground, shower in a trailer, and never go back to that event again, haha.

Sounds like it'd be a big hit with the Tighty Whitey Twister crowd.
You have more class than that.
Cosater Campout seems to be more about the experience of getting to camp out in the park than it is about ride marathons. A nice, new Hotel Breakers room is close enough for me though.
It was a new event last year, so I'm sure they are still exploring new ideas for it.
Based on the surveys, sure seemed like the event would evolve over time. The (long) line waiting to get your spot assigned will almost certainly be an improved aspect.
Oh, and the grassy infield of the antique car ride was pretty nice.
Nonetheless...I'll be at HWN. I'll get a couple laps in on T-bird to be sure. But I'm really there to spend time with my friends....and Voyage. In that order.
