Holiday World or PKI.....

OK, Here's the deal. In 2 days i will be leaving on a trip to go to Louivlle, Kentucky. I am visiting friends down there. Knowing my facination for coasters and parks, my friends mom gave me a chioce, either the whole family goes to Holiday world or PKI, both about 1-2 hours away from their house, in opposite directions. now i ask, givein that the fate of a whole family who likes to ride them as GP and an enthusiast, which woiuld you chose, for me its the toss of a coin, but i dont know what the family would like....your advice if greatly appreacatied.

I would probably choose PKI, theres 4 good woodies (Beast, SOB, Racer, Recar) and 3 decent steel and one excellent steel. There's also Tomb Raider and Drop Zone that are excellent, overall there's more rides here, but at Holiday World you probably get better service, but they only have 2 woodies and one small steel if I remember correctly. I would say PKI, it's just family friendly.

It really depends on what you're looking for in a park. PKI is a really nice park, and of course most people go there for the coasters and rides like Tomb Raider. And PKI should be proud of all the world class coasters and flat rides that they offer. HW has 2 fabulous woodies that are not to be missed. I took a trip to PKI, SFKK, & HW in June, and I enjoyed HW most of all. HW has so much to offer. Yes, Raven and The Legend are great, but the park also has a terrific water park, friendly employees, and don't forget the free soft drinks and sunscreen! Not to say that PKI isn't enjoyable. I just enjoyed the small park atmosphere of HW so much! And for some people, the size of HW makes PKI a better choice, since HW is rather small in comparison.

If I had to make the choice that you have to make, I'd definitely go for HW. However, I don't think you'll go wrong, no matter which park you end up chosing to go to!

oh since erica mentioned SFKK, we are going there already so people dont suggest that. I can go to 2 parks, KK and either HW or PKI.

Holiday World...

FREE Parking, FREE Soft Drinks, even FREE Sunscreen for the waterpark. Oh ya, and 2 of the best damn woodies in America.

Well, wherever you go you'll be sad you missed the other. Just for size and quantity, I'd suggest PKI. Although HW has 2 AMAZING woodies, PKI still has atleast one AMAZING woodie, and possibly 1 or 2 more depending on your tastes. It also has a gigantic drop ride, TR:TR, a few good steel coasters, and a lot else. HW, along with 2 great woodies are a couple decent water rides, a great water park, some kiddie rides, a few flats, a car ride, great atmosphere, and a lot of free stuff. But, I could spend much more time at PKI and they just have a size advantage.

I went to both parks on back-to-back days. I liked Holiday World and PKI, I'd pick whichever one you want, but if you are at PKI at nighttime you HAVE to ride The Beast.

see that what im afriad of, those haunting dreams of the park i missed....oh well, ill get to the Other park some other time, but i still dont know which one, for me i would pick it with a coin-flip, but its just so hard to flip the d*** coin.

See the thing is you probably can't spend a whole day at holiday world and not get bored, you could spend a whole day at PKI and not be very bored most of the time.

Yeah. I agree. I got my fill of Holiday World in a couple of hours. Of course, this was strictly focusing on their two great wood coasters, not the water park or the flat rides. Even still, unless I had a kid with me, I would get bored of just 2 coasters, no matter how good they are, after a few hours.

PKI, on the other hand, is freaking HUGE, and has many, many great rides. Last time I was there, I couldn't even finish the park in one day (and that was just riding thrill rides, no little stuff).

Save Holiday World for the next trip. It's definitely someplace you want to go eventually...but since you have to choose, I say go for PKI. Maybe next time you are in the area, you can do Holiday World and Indiana Beach (a good combo...do both in the same day).

nah i wanna go to SFKK, it may not be the best but i get in for free and thats the place closest to where they like. About a 5 minute drive.

Remember, it could cost quite a bit more to go to PKI depending on how many are going. Admission is higher, and there's a parking fee you won't deal with at HW. If it's money, HW's the better deal by far, and the coasters themselves are far better there. But, though I love HW, there is far more to do at PKI.

All in all, I suggest PKI.

The two coasters at HW better than the 8 adult coasters at PKI no way. Price appearantly isn't an issue. I wouldn't be to worried about SFKK, just go in with low expectations Hellevator, Chang, and Thunder Road are good rides, but not the best. I would be sure to get on Chang though, as it will be one of the better Stand ups you will ever ride.

Or do yo like Live, Chili peppers, Blondie and Danzig?

If you answered yes to #1, then go to PKI, if you answered yes to #2, then go to Holiday world!

I would DEFINETLY suggest PKI if you had to choose one park. Are both parks great? Yes! IMO though Shawna and I did Holiday World in 3/4 of a day (granted we didn't go to the water park though). We had a blast. But at PKI you can easily spend all day and then some there. If you want to go for the coasters or overall atmosphere I would pick PKI. It's really hard not to have a great time at PKI. The one thing you will run into is $ Holiday World is a heck of a lot cheaper than PKI. But you do get you're money's worth at both parks easily.

If I had an overseas friend who has never been to any parks in the USA (which I have done before) and he had a limited budget of 10 parks. PKI is on the list. There is just so much having to do with Coaster History there.

zombie, what if I only like Dave Matthews and the Chili Peppers, but none of the others? Looks like I have to go to both!! :)

Anyways, if you want the best wooden coasters IMO, go to Kings Island. The Beast is the much better and longer version of The Raven to me. Son of Beast in 6-2 rivals The Legend big time!! The Racer backwards is loaded with airtime this year. You have 4 kiddie coasters to rival HW's one. :)

If you want the best experience for your money, you can't go wrong with either to be honest since I think both charge a completely fair price for what I'm getting. If you can't spend much though, do HW and wait until later for PKI.

PKI is an all day park for first-timers and Holiday World is half a day for the most part (even lower if you're not crazy about reriding their wooden coasters). Both are in my Top 10 favorite parks and I don't see you going wrong to be honest. You win no matter what and you lose no matter what. Flip a coin! :)

alright the descision was made, PKI won by a ratio of 2:3, (5 of us voted, i made this topic on what to vote for) so anyone got any tips for me to get on as many coasters as possible, i belive we are going on a friday or a monday.
