Holiday World expects a possible boost from Kentucky Kingdom closure

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Holiday World president Will Koch says it's sad to see any park close, following the announcement that Six Flags is pulling out of Kentucky Kingdom, but is hopeful that Holiday World will benefit.

Yes they are.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

How rude.

I passed the park today (and a few days ago) and got a gander at my beloved Tidal Wave/Viper/Greezy... I sure would love to see her at Holidayworld! Even for a few years if that's all she has left.

Yes they are. Thats my point, no spring coaster events for me this year (unless I can go to KI's RWW) because they are both that weekend.

Yes, they are. I do not see how it was rude for Cedar Point to schedule Coaster Mania that weekend. They have Consistantly had their event the first weekend in June. Now, I do not believe this myself. But, If anything you could say Holiday World is the one being rude Having Holiwood Nights that weekend. Not to mention they are having another event on Cedar Point's opening day. But, there are only so many weekends in the year. So, I say get over it and make plans to go to Fall Affair.

Don't forget that Kings Island is the 800 lb Gorilla in the room for this area. Before SFKK and before Holiday World expanded the water park, people in the Louisville/Kentuckiana area trekked to KI. Annually. Without SFKK, a lot of those people will go to KI. Hell, most people in Lexington (an hour or so east of Lousiville) have never heard of Holiday World, and so the loss of SFKK isn't an issue.

The Eastern Suburbs of Louisville are probably close to equidistant between KI and HW. Big name recognition, and advertising big ass steel coasters (not that I'm advocating those for HW) will be enough to suck up the slack.

HW will get the WATERPARK crowd from the louisville market. But remember, HW is not a short drive across town like SFKK was for the Louisville market, it's now an 1-1/2 hours from downtown.

HW will see an uptick in attendance, but at least for this year, remember that the economy still sucks, so ANY park is probably not going to see dramatic gains in attendance.

Jason, I think he meant it was "rude" for any parks to schedule an event the same weekend as his graduation. And I'm pretty sure he's just kidding around through his disappointment about missing his favorite spring events. Relax. There's no reason to tell him to "get over it", especially since he was just explaining why he can't take Moosh's suggestion to go to Holiwood Nights.

I did not mean my post to come out sounding like that. I just meant that there are plenty of other evets to go to without worring about the ones you are going to miss.

If the post was a sarcastic one, I appologise. I did not read it that way.

Gotcha, Jason. Sometimes it's hard to tell intent in the forums. Touchdown only brought up the events in the first place because Moosh did. His point was that night rides would be easier for him to enjoy if the park's hours were extended. That makes sense to me.

I see. I sometimes forget about posts that I read in previous visits to the site.

It's totally Moosh's fault. :)

Carrie must be wired to my brain. I really wish there was some sort of sarcastic font or something similar to be able to articulate this on the internet.

Also no worries Jason, I figured you didn't get the sarcastic reference which in the end is my fault for a lack of good internet communication skills.

No, no...it's still totally Moosh's fault. ;)

I tend to blame everything on Mooshie. It just makes life easier.

Have you been speaking to my partner? ;)

Last edited by Mamoosh,

With Beech Bend's water park expansion I have a feeling they'll recieve alot of benefit of this as well. Maybe they'll explode on the scene with a few more coasters?

Mamoosh's avatar

More coasters are definitely planned for Beech Bend.
