Holiday World announces tallest enclosed water slide

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Holiday World & Splashin' Safari will build the world’s largest enclosed waterslide for the 2002 season, ZOOMbabwe, at a cost of $1.7 million.

ZOOMbabwe, a gigantic purple enclosed waterslide, will be 102-feet tall, making it the largest ride of its kind in the world. It will be 887-feet long, ranging in diameter from nine to 12 feet.

ZOOMbabwe rafts will hold up to five family members each, with hourly capacity expected to top 1,000 riders. Covering four acres, the new ride will increase the size of Indiana’s largest water park to 22 acres.

The park plans to hire an additional 50 seasonal employees for next season and expects the new ride to increase the parks’ attendance by 10 percent in 2002.

"I think they need an elevator for this thing. 102 feet is a lot of steps in your bare feet, especially on that "comfortable" flooring they use at water parks."

How do you think I'm gonna make my millions?  I will create a waterpark with elevators and escalators!  With PADDING on the floors to make them comfortable!  Ohhhhh, I'm gonna make sooooooo much money...coasters and the best thing to ever happen to waterparks.  :::maniacal laughing:::

Wow!  That looks cool but...

If it is anything like Neptune's Fury at Raging Waters prepare for a dissapointment.  The line moves incredialbly slow and the ride isnt all that thrilling, but at 102 feet I am sure it will be very thrilling.

Well, if the hourly capacity is anywhere near what they stated, I don't think the line will be moving slow at all.  That's a lot of riders per hour.  I really think this is a great addition, and I'm not a real big waterpark fan.  Of course I like them, but I don't go to them all that much.  I'll be going to Splashin' Safari now though when I hit SRM next year.  Gotta get on that thing.  :)  Great job on the graphics Paula!  I love the logo, is there going to be a jacket patch for that?  ;)

The ride looks so cool, and even if there is minimal themeing/greenery it will be fabulous.

It seems like Hoiliday World is just warming up...

Cool ..looks DARK......? and wet!....It will be the best thing for HW  for 2002 .....Next to a dualing hyperwoodie!!! 8200 ft. long...by CCI....with PTC trains....! and NO speedbrakes....., Well mabye next year.
100 feet must be one hell of a walk up. I would hate to see families with checkend out kids near the top, because of the walk down. Though its great to see finally that water parks are really starting to compete like amusement parks when getting new rides. I love going to Noah's Park on weekends and party up at the Dells. The Wisconsin Dells rock when it comes to water parks and go cart parks.

I may be from IL, but i sure can't get enough of the FORCE. MF!!!
hey, if the kids chicken out, make 'em go on anyway rather than walking down
Re 360 ...

Back to back curves with accelerators in between are definitely a better ride when its comes to rafting rides ... think bobsledding, never a 360 there ..... although the Wahoo Run at Adventure Island has a smokin' 360!!! It's definitely one to try!!!

P>FONT face=Verdana size=2>I>It looks great, but I think it should have a 360 degree spin at the somewhere in there(like at the end). All it is is turn, drop, turn, drop, turn, drop and so on and so fourth. I also agree that it has a great name. ----------------- I've got laser eyes, and I know what you're thinking. It comes to no surprise, the Christmas lights are blinking/I>./P>
P>No, it's drop,turn,drop,turn, and so on. He he./P>

When Holiday World's web site said that something big will come on October 4, I though it would be a steel giga-coaster.

But a water slide? Totally unexpected.

Hey, Paula.  Is that slide going to be open on the Friday night ERT's at SRM?  I won't be there on Saturday or Sunday, but I will be there on Friday.  Thanks.

thats a hell of a lot of stairs
Regarding Stark RAVEN Mad...we will have ERT on ZOOMbabwe Saturday morning, June 1.

Regarding the comments about all the stairs to climb...the slide tower will actually only be 60 feet tall. Since it's on a hillside, the start of the tower is already four stories higher than the splash pool. So as far as number of steps to climb, it's 40% less than what you're imagining.

Neverless, it probably wouldn't hurt any of us to ask for a Stair-Master for Christmas! :0)

Thanks for all the nice comments about liking the name. We had about four meetings to work on a name, and right before it was time to vote, someone passed me back the list of African nations I'd printed out and suddenly Zimbabwe jumped out at me. Happily, most everyone liked the idea of ZOOMbabwe.
