Holiday World adding Mayflower swinging ship for 2014

Posted | Contributed by slider37

Holiday World will add a swinging ship called the Mayflower to its Thanksgiving-themed section. The park will also add a new restaurant and shop to Splashin' Safari, more cabanas, a covered bridge entry into Thanksgiving and parking lot improvements. The park will also have a fireworks display on Fridays during the peak of the season.

I'm happy to see the attention coming back to Holiday World. To me it seems like Splashin' Safari is now sitting at a great place, and can rest a while. Other than a Flow Rider or some of the trap door slides, there's nothing SS is lacking, and they've made it clear those aren't their "type" of attractions. The new restaurant should help ease congestion at the other restaurants in the water park because the lines can get quite long mid-day. While all of this might not be earth shattering, Holiday World displays a long-term commitment to be an exceptional park by continually improving their infrastructure and overall guest experience.

The biggest surprise about this announcement is that it took them seven years to do it!

Had turkey for years and years - the Gravy Boat has finally arrived!

Definitely a welcome and long-overdue addition to the park. But, just like with mashed potatoes or corn biscuits, one helping of flats is not enough. More, please...

Not enough? What do you expect? A park can't add a Disk'O and a set of Flying Scooters all in one year.

Is there a story behind this seven year hold up?

I don't think so. Since Voyage they have added Gobbler Getaway, Pilgrims Plunge, several kiddie rides, the two swing rides, and a ton of waterpark expansion. The Mayflower is the common family thrill ride that they have been lacking, and it is such an obvious fit for the Thanksgiving section that it's just surprising that it has taken this long to become part of the line up.

I didn't mean to imply any kind of insider info or anything like that. Holiday World would never do such a thing. 8-)

It just always seemed like a natural fit for the area when it opened or soon afterward.

Guess this Mayflower actually found India first, Before Sailing to the New World?

It was Columbus searching for India. The Pilgrims already knew they were heading for New England, 128 years after Columbus realized his error. Sheesh someone skipped history class.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

No, He's right, I was half asleep when I posted. Of course I remember the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria and the quest for India.
