Holiday World to SFoG, Too long a Drive?

This trip really intrigued me. Has anyone here made this trip? When you reply, keep in mind that this trip will be done as part of a family vacation, so that leads me to my next question. Is there anything else to do in the area between these two parks. Thanks.
SFKK is a short hour or 2 out of the way.

It's around 400 miles. If that is too far all depends on your family. Some of the Tennessee parks might be close enough to rate a stop.

If you take I-65 south to get to Georgia, SFKK is right next to the highway. Another small family park only a few minutes off the interstate is Lake Winnepesauka, in Rossville Georgia (next to Chattanooga, TN). Their website is www.lakewinnie.com .

I have driven from Atlanta to Wabash, IN, it was quite a long drive. Not bad except in Indiana (motto: you can't work on interstates too much). I'll be working there at the Great American Scream Machine as the ride foreman. See you there!

Make sure you stop in Chattanooga to see Lookout Mountain.

In 2000, I personally drove from Atlanta to Louisville (as part of a more massive journey from Orlando to Chicago with a brief sleep layover in Nappy-town (Indianapolis)). The drive took *me* eight hours, with only one stop for gas, food, kidney flush and fill... Now, if you've been playing along at home, you know that I drive FAST (I averaged 10-15 mph over the speed limits) so your actual travel time may vary.

All right, thanks. What exactly is Lookout Mountain?

Jeremy,

I just looked on Microsoft Streets and Trips 2002 how far it would take from Louisville to Atlanta. It says 418mi.

Now if you went 65mph, you'd have made that trip in 6.4hrs...Were you driving extremely slow or did I just read that eight hours incorrectly?

Lookout Mountain is a mountain in Chattanooga. They have a cave tour (Ruby Falls), an Incline Railway (70 degree drop at 5 MPH), Rock City (where you can see seven states), and then theres always the Chattanooga aquarium (very good for a family).

Chattanooga is definetly a great place and I should know because I used to live there. The Chattanooga Choo Choo, the aquarium, Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, and Rock City are great family stops and Lake Winne should not be missed. The Cannon Ball is one of the most fun coasters i have ever ridden and is worth the admission price. It is a fun park. Make sure to go into the fun house, its really fun and is a great example of an older fun house. Chattanooga is a fun stop... so go.

Sorry JC, brain fart. I guess we were much closer to the GA/FL border when we switched drivers. I know I had been driving for a while before we got to ATL, but I hadnt realized I had bee driving that long. Maybe it was around atl where we stopped for gas...DAMNit! Now I have no clue....
lata,
jeremy (the mind is the first thing to go...)
P.S. I should smite thee for even thinking that I would drive slowly...

I grew up near Chattanooga, it's definitely a day stop. Lots to do there!

I am thinking about going to Holiday World, Michigan's Adventure, and Six Flags St. Louis instead.

Last spring I left Indy at 8:00P and got to SFOG at about 9:00 the next morning . That was with a stop for munchies at 9:30 P Gas at 12:30 A, a 4hr sleep break at a rest area in Tenn. and breakfast w/newspaper in Dalton. After a day at the park I drove all the way back to just outside of Nashville before calling it a day.

Whats life if you never get to the Po!nt?

From what I've heard of Jeremy's driving it took him less than 8 hours, unless he hit Atlanta at rush hour which can take forever.

LOL, makes sense that you're losing it Jeremy, after all you actually *want* to ride Titan! :)

JC, who also drives fast, but I guess not fast enough for the IB tour...grrrr

LOL, I was born in Dalton, lived there until college!

Lookout Mountain and Ruby Falls aren't really that great. If there is a little kid, then hit it for them. I personally found it to be just another cave...

....2hostyl, thinking of speeding tickets as "badges of honor", j/k, got one myself awhile back at the "World Famous Waldo, FL Speed Trap"...note to self, drive the extra miles and take I-10 to I-75, roads where the speed limits are as posted, and don't change with the wind...I also am looking forward to Mighty Titan, hoping he's as good as the Big G...

Is it me, or do yankees (you know who you are, LMAO!) spend an ENORMOUS amount of time working on the roads...must be the weather and the unbelievable traffic you have to endure...(or is the the traffic and the unbelievable weather?)...

SFoG is Hotlanta, northwest Georgia, easily accessible from the Midwest with two drivers...we made home (G-ville) from PKI, but man that drive "bit the big one"...

Legendary, keeping up with those acers requires absolutely "no (trim) brakes" (TM)...
