Holiday World - Where to stay?

Hi,

I am planning a family trip for 7 to Holiday World (planning is relative since I'm just now looking for a place to stay). Considering the Lodging list on their website yielded only one availablity in Jasper, which is about 40 minutes away. Does anyone know of any hotels a little closer (and not listed on the HW site) that I could try.

Thanx,

Doug

I stayed at the Days Inn at Jasper. It is about 30 minutes away. Not a 4 Star hotel but good for the price and clean. It isnt THAT far to drive... just down one road. What ever you do DO NOT stay in Ferdinand!

Edit: Oh yeah and dont let the jail across the street scare you too much! :)

The one time I was there, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Tell City. It's a lot nicer than I expected, with an indoor pool, and the town is right on the Ohio River.

Santa's Lodge anyone? We could see Raven from our room, it's right next door.....I suggest you staying there if you want a close place! www.santaslodge.com

cpcrazy44,

he asked for close places that were NOT on the parks website because all the rest were booked up and had no availability...

What about the campground.....camping can be quite fun with that many people.

I guess it *could* be, hehe. Honestly, the first two SRMs we stayed off-site....the most recent two, we stayed with Rudolph...the bright red nose makes an excellent night-light...;)

But, if you have more than a few people, I cannot stress enough how great the campground is....the RVs are an excellent way to go....and HW is one of those places that really DESERVES my loyalty, both as a consumer and as a friend....

Tell City is a great place to stay. I live about 20 minutes from Tell City, and the Ramada and Holiday Inn are very nice hotels. You should try those. And Tell City is about 30-35 minutes from Holiday World.

Or better yet, try Owensboro, KY. Just a short drive over a bridge and about 25 minutes from Holiday World. Owensboro offers many, many, many hotels, all which are very nice. Try the Comfort Suites that just opened, Executive Inn, or Fairfield Inn. And many others.

Santa's Lodge is on the park's website and it's about 2 blocks away from the park. Also in nearby Dale there's a Baymont Inn & Suites.

The answers are on the internet if you do the work.

Jasper is just too damn far away. We stayed there the year before last and that was not convenient.

This year we stayed at the Quality Inn right there on the freeway in Ferdinand it was very large. Good rooms to crash in and spend your down time. Fairly new as well.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

For SRM I stayed at the Baymont Inn in Dale! It was about 10 minute away from the park, making it very convenient. The rates were a little high, so if that doesnt suit you there was a Motel 6 across the street that my friends were staying at. The rooms were nice there and they had great rates.

The campground is highly recommended. Great RVs for almost nothing, and a grizzled old man to escort you out to your hidden gem of a camper, driving a beat up golf cart. Who can top that? ASK FOR 31! ;) (what the hell did that mean?)

Motel 6 in Dale is a good place to stay. That's were I stayed at for Stark Raven Mad.

Thanx all for the suggestions. Sorry I couldn't stay on thru lunch. It's crunch time before a vacation leave.

Looks like we're going to Holiday Inn in Tell City. My wife found an availability at a reasonable price. Camping would have been great but the two dayz we'll be visiting HW is just the start of a 10 day vacation. With a family of six in a Suburban with enough luggage for 10 days . . . needless to say, I'm not camping this time around.

I'll keep these suggestions in mind for the next trip. I'm an HW virgin and I expect I'll be back.

Doug
