Holiday weekend park attendance

Almost everyone on here is more seasoned in this hobby than I am, so here's a question for the frequent travellers....

Does the Memorial Day weekend tradtionally draw more or less patrons to most parks? I am thinking that a lot of families will go away for the weekend or do picnic/family things at home. My ex seems to think I am out of my gourd for taking my son to his school picnic at Kennywood tomorrow, and that I should have saved the fun pass tix for a weekday during the summer. (Well, we all know weekdays are less crowded... no 'duh!)

Any input? (Either way there will be a trip report tomorrow night..heh heh) The kid won;t speak to me for weeks if I back out now......

My experience has shown less travelers are at parks this weekend than later in the summer. Actually, it's one of my favorite times to travel with smaller crowds and cooler temperatures.

Agreed. I'm of the belief that this weekend is a great time to hit the parks as far as seeing lower crowd turnout.

Other than Cedar Point perhaps. :) At least this year anyway.

The front of the park should be pleasant. ;)
The only park I have ever been to on Memorial Day is SFGADv and GASM has a 2 hr line. I'd avoid it at all costs.
As far as CP in concerned I've had mixed results in the past. Some times it's been really busy, other times it's been light. I have a big feeling with Maverick opening tomorrow, and that they are giving out 3,000 t'shirts each day this weekend...business may be slightly up for us tomorrow.

Last year I was at Dorney with my fiancee (like we're planning on doing again this year) and the lines for the coasters were non-existent! We walked onto Hydra twice, Talon, Laser, and had a one-train wait on Thunderhawk (we chose not to ride Steel Force, she's not big on it).

Over at the Wildwater Kingdom side, there were more people there, so there were 10-15 minute waits for slides...but still definitely not bad at all!

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

It was pretty good... the only walk-on was one trip on the Swings, and the longest wait was about 45 min for the new "Cosmic Chaos" (Disk-O) ... We were able to do 3 trips on the Phantoms Revenge (including one really awesome one front seat, last ride of the night ) and 3 on the T-Bolt, and the T Bolt was down for the first part of the day.... so it was pretty good decision, I think.. :)

Although the attendance didn't seem to dwindle into the night, some of the lines did.... and I learned you can get the same Cheese Fries in the smaller stand in Lost Pittsburgh at one third the wait of the Potato Shack!
