Holding brake on V2 SFMW

I was under the impression that it worked after the modification at some point, but in my multiple trips it's never been on and it doesn't even look like the train gets high enough for the LIM's to kick in. Did it ever operate?

It sure did. On my last trip it was in operation. I do remember it was jerkier than before, making a loud noise and forcing me into the restraints. Quite disconcerting!

I was under the impression the break was on the first spike resulting in some riders being stopped upside down. Or maybe just the flat part. Guess I was wrong.

I think it's safe to say that the holding brake on V2 at SFMW is spotty at best when it comes to working. Before the modification it worked for probably at least a month before it quit and I think it was pretty reliable during 2002. This season, it was fine up until probably last month. All I know is that each time I ride it, I don't expect it to work and if it does I consider it an added bonus.

The holding brake was not in operation a few days ago when we were there. Is it just me or is that holding brake a lot shorter than the one on SM:UE and SV?

From what I've seen in my numerous visits to the park this month, the holding brake is off completely right now. It doesn't go on half the time, or a quarter of the time; it's turned off :) .

In August 2002, it was on, however, it was spotty at best. It didn't turn on for 3 of my rides, but hit hard on one, and kind of "drug" down the track for the last ride. Weird stuff there. I don't really understand why it can't operate like S:UE. :(

I've been just about every other day for the last week and never seen it on.

The stalling upside down on the first "spike" is just a consequence of the fact that the spike has been tipped over.

These days you won't ever see it on. Not since it was shut down yet again in July. V2 started the 2003 season with the holding brake on and in July it was turned off and will likely stay that way through the season.

Even if the holding brake were operational, there are times it works and there are times it doesn't, at least that's how it seemed to me. Any ride on SFMW's Vertical Velocity with the hold on is a bonus like I said before.
