High Resolution Aerial View of Cedar Point

Hey everyone,

I posted this over at Guide to the Point, but I figured I should put it here for those that don't visit GTTP that often.

I have a hi-res aerial view of Cedar Point. If anyone would like to see it, click here: http://ecoop.uc.edu/students/oakleysd/cp/cp.htm

It's VERY large. (12.5 MB)

I hope you like it!

Cool, looks like it was taken in the winter.

That's awesome! Looks like WT wasn't built yet.

A rollercoaster? What's that?

It does look cool and the rumored new coaster idea works perfectly now that I can see the whole thing. However, all this time I've been arguing that CP has enough space to last for a very long time, but now I am beginning to wonder. Those big coasters take up a lot of space.....if creative planning is what it takes to make the space last for a while, we may see some coasters shoe-horned in some places. -Allan

This picture definitely puts to end the old adage that CP is running out of space. There's more than enough room for large attractions. Great picture... I can't quit staring at it and zooming on the details. :)

I forgot to mention, that was taken in spring 2001. Notice Lighthouse Point is still being built.

Very interesting (and cool) pic. I like how you only see the top of the rides, but the shadow sticks out showing the structure (most notably Power Tower and MF).

My two favorite coasters are named Superman.
Nitro, Gemini, Laser, Ice, Thunder...The American Gladiators!

Am I the only one getting about 1/3 of the top of the image and the rest is white? I've downloaded multiple times.

It is not working for me either. I've also downloaded it several times. How come it is doing that?
works for me...
It looks pretty cool. It would be awsome to go to a printer shop, get it blown up, and have yourself some wallpaper!

It'd be nicer if we had it in color too... but well, I'll take what I can get.

If they got Cedar Point in the spring of 2001 as a arial sattelite photo, I wonder if there are other parks out there floating around with recent arial views (recent as of at least the year 2000).

Wow. Thats a nice pic. Oh, and the rumored coaster would fit nicely now that I look at an arial view of the park. and the rumored coaster is no rumor. People working there say that it will be a roller coaster like the Xcelerater, but longer, higher, and faster!!! They said the new coaster will be over 100 ft higher than the Millennium Force, and it will go well over 100 mph. It might be a joke but i belived the people working there.

I don't take what employees say too seriously, but I have told several people half jokingly that if CP gets an Intamin hydraulic launch (which I think it will be) then I am moving to Sandusky!!!!
I might have to live up to my word!

Xcelerator is the sh&*!!!

I have to wonder what drugs Joey Stewart is on... I mean, I look at the exact same (very very cool) image, and I'm wondering to myself where all this alleged space is that CP has so much of... :-)

Anyway, very cool image. I had fun finding and identifying all the rides. Boy, the "Mine Ride" coaster doesn't look at that impressive at all from the air :-)

And it is cool to be able to visualize exactly how the bumper-car removal is going to work... and yeah, it'd be cool to see a new coaster in its place.

Awesome pic, thanks! (and thank gawd for broadband ;-)

This wasn't from anything pertaining to the actual park, just an aerial view of all of Erie County was taken last spring. I beleive it was for the office of the Auditor. Most counties in Ohio have these kinds of files available to the public. I just used MrSid viewer but ArcView works as well...apparently these images are scalabe and ortho-corrected. Cool stuff. Check with your county's auditor to see if you can get something like this. It cost me like 3 bucks.

Just becuase someone works there doesn't mean they know. CP hires 4,000 employees a year I believe and it's not like their just going to go around and tell ever single one what they are getting. That stuff gets passed on and as stuff gets passed on it becomes more un-true.

And you really think Cedar Point is going to try and keep their future additions a secret by telling it to their thousands of employees?

Its funny how every time CP builds something we go through this SAAAMMEE old thing with emplyoees supposedly telling people what is coming, and thinking that you were just told classified information and you know what the new ride is somehow!! And most "rumors" which come up arent even credible in the least, just hopeful speculation... :-/

Sometimes employes DO know. I knew about MF durring my employment in '99 WAY BEFORE the announcement. I didn't know it would be an elevator cable though. I was misinformed and told it was to be launched.

Some employees are VERY close to "Those who know", and sometimes "Those who know" let it slip. Then Those who heard it from "Those who know" tell those who don't know. After a while the info may or may not get out to those who want to know but don't.

Does this make any sense?
