Hey Chris Godsey - how's the park coming?

I haven't heard any new updates on the Mega-Mississppi park in quite sometime. Is an announcement coming soon?

I just saw you post in another thread so I thought I would try to catch you now.

Well, I am heading down to the site this weekend to check on the road relocation. Once the road is relocated, the land purchase will be final and construction can begin. But I must say this... I have NOTHING to do with when the park is announced and I DO NOT have anything to do with the financial aspect of the park. I am simply a consultant to the guy regarding the attractions.

Also, I have other clients that I have been working for. I have submitted rides to two different parks in the last month or so. Hopefully, mine will be chosen. But I am going up against the design God himself...Stengel.

Just curious, Chris, what are your qualifications for this sort of thing? You aren't an engineer, right? You're more of a Stengel/John Wardley type obviously, but I'm just wondering what your education and work background are to get into that sort of work.

Well, my degree is in Information Technology Management from Christian Brothers University here in Memphis. I did some IT consulting at Universal Studios in Orlando and got into design by someone walking over to my desk and seeing some concept drawings on it. I did some minor queue work for IOA, but no rides themselves. I went home to Arkansas one weekend and ran into an old friend of the family that he needed some research for a park he was trying to build. So, he hired me on retainer to do research and to design his websites. I originally was gonna be the head of IT at the park. But, I came up with about 40 designs for attractions and he liked them. I also had some friends at SDC and I did some minor design work on Buzzsaw Falls. Well, I decided to open up my own consulting firm and here I am. I have NO engineering background, but I have many engineer friends that I have on retainer to help me out. The main thing you need in the design business is creativity. That one thing can determine if you are successful or not.

Hopefully, I have answered your questions.

Chris

chris, pretty cool how everything sort of fell into place with you. It always helps to have friends in high postitions but I am sure it is mostly your talents that got you to where you are now. What kind of work did you do on Buzzsaw Falls, since I heard the theming is superb?

What kind of attractions will be at this park?

800,000 years in 7 seconds: Time Machine the movie or next S&S creation?

So how did you get a creative job at Universal?
I have not publically spoken about any of the attractions specifically, nor will I start today. People have speculated on here what the park will have and some of them have some truth in them. I will speak from what is on the drawing board. There are 100 attractions on the boards with a moderate to heavy number of roller coasters. All of the rides will be moderately themed with a few of them being very immersive. This is a massive undertaking that involved hundreds of millions of investment dollars. I have no say or control in the finances or even if the park will be built. The good thing is, the designs are still mine until the park is finalized. So, if the park fails, I can take them elsewhere. I'm sure I could sell them to another park. I also have other clients that keep me busy. I am still fairly new in the business so I have alot ahead of me.
