Hersheypark's Comet 1978 "remodeling"?

SLFAKE, Jess, a friend of my sisters who worked at Hershey Zoo, said that they were going to expand over to where to apartments are behind the Great Bear, because they are going to tear them down (supposedly). This may not be true, but that's what she said.

That rumor has been circulating. However... Park Blvd runs through that area. Now granted, a road is no problem to bridge or go under. They have already gone under Park Blvd for the access road that connects all of the parking lots. It is conceivable that they could even close off that road entirely. Years ago there was a road that ran from Rt 743 to the front of the Arena, roughly through the footprint of the Sidewinder. So the road is not a problem. HOWEVER... Beyond is road is the railroad line... 3 tracks with heavy freight traffic. I can't even imagine the regulations surrounding that... let alone the cost.

There was also some talk about a major project to turn the "down town" area into a tourist area, but was shot down by locals who want to keep the town basically as it is.

Just a guess on my part... I don't think we will ever see expansion into that area. Now the area across Hersheypark Drive... who knows about that.

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"

When did HP turn the Comet into a forceless wimpy family ride with excessive braking? I have heard for several years that the ride is a mere shadow of its former self. Gary Edwards told me he has ridden it when he was younger and thought it was really great and now he feels that HP has "totally ruined the ride with brakes" or soimthing like that.

Maybe Gary Edwards can get the yearly maintenence bill. I bet his attitude will change.

A few seasons ago, the Comet was awesome, but they killed the Comet The beginning is the same, but the turnaround isn't what it used to be.

Outside Rink: I don't think I ever really saw the outside rink... at least not up close. Wasn't sure how much room that would actually give the park. It was just a guess on my part.

HPArena as home ice: I forgot that LVC's Flying Dutchmen use HPArena as their home ice (and I never even heard of the Metro Falcons).

Breaked Comet: While the break on the second turn (the station turn) of the Comet may have slowed the latter part of the ride down, there are sometimes when it seems to be on heavier than others. It could be my imagination, but during Hersheypark in the Dark it seemed that it was hardly even grabbing the train and it still took the bunny hop finish at a fairly good speed. (I also remember that the looper's trim was hardly on for HP in the Dark... actually giving a pop of air before a roaring finish in the "canyon" helix.)
