If CP had only gone 299 feet high with MF, would you people still be asking why CP would just build 2 hypers.

No, we would’ve been asking why they couldn’t have gone the extra 12 inches to break the 300ft mark

But then again, what do I know?

I've heard non-enthusiasts say similar things many times actually. And the wooden coasters are actually a good example of that: before I got into the enthusiast community, many people I knew in Hershey found it disappointing and weird that Lightning Racer was the coaster addition that year because they had Wildcat and Comet. *shrug* I personally understand the huge differences in Skyrush and a new B&M, and I don't care if there are two hypers (yay, actually), but it's kind of an unusual addition to me.

Yeah, this coaster makes no sense. I mean, every park has only one flat ride that goes in a circle, for crying out loud.

Because the ride would have been SOOO much better. lol Did CP gain any attendance by building the tallest hybrid coaster this year?

Hersheypark became my favorite park before this announcement. I drive right by Cedar Point on my way there. Right now, as far as the collection they have goes, the only thing I would like changed ASAP is fixing up Wildcat...it's got a little bit too much of that shaky bounciness. Other than that, their line up is pretty fantastic. They do NEED a B&M floater type of ride since, even if it's another hyper, it will appeal to a far larger audience than Skyrush (my current number 1 coaster).

No. We'd be complaining about the capacity or the color scheme.

Alright, you got me, dang it.

In any case, I'm absolutely thrilled to be getting a B&M hyper so close to home. Nitro at GrAdv still sits comfortably close to the top of my coaster list.

Not a complaint, but an observation. I know they had to use what available land there was for this, but it seems that this new entrance further de-centralizes the entrance of the park and will not help the morning crowd flow. The crowd normally swarms around the Carrousel Circle/Comet Hollow rides in the morning and the rest of the park is lightly crowded then. This new coaster is guaranteed to have huge lines from gate opening. I always thought there should be some kind of 2nd gate near Midway America to better disperse the crowd there.

^Well, there will be more people staying up in the new area due to the new coaster being there, plus, while the current gate is beautiful to look at, it's not very efficient. You can't even see if an employee is in them. After being to Hersheypark 4 or 5 times, I finally realized that the pathway under Skyrush, along the creek, actually goes almost to the front gate.

Super7, In time, the new entrance will be more centralized, because many predict that the park will expand into the newly purchased land that the new coaster is being built on. This new entrance is so necessary and needed. It looks like the entrance will be opened up and visitors will be less crowded.

Hersheypark is such a strangely designed park, and their new additions are sometime perplexing. I find it fascinating more than annoying. Some years when they announce what is new for the upcoming year, I ask myself, "Why?" They desperately try to fit things where they do not fit. They reproduce experiences with similar coasters, and offer similar color schemes that do not help people to differentiate different rides that are close to each other. And then there is Skyrush, which many people love, and many people very much dislike.

I love Hersheypark so much, but it often seems like a Roller Coaster Tycoon sandbox being played by a ten-year-old.

^Hersheypark is definitely confusing to get around. I think the fact that a river and valley run through it might be the major cause of it. Another could be them never expecting it to become such a popular amusement park. So, it became, "Let's just squeeze this in where it fits." It's still one of the prettiest parks I've been to. It looks like the blank canvas they've acquired will be more logical than the old section. Hopefully it's just as charming as the old and doesn't look like a fancy strip mall.

I've been going to Hersheypark on the average twice a year for the past 5 years and still can't navigate my way around it. Invariably make a wrong turn trying to get from Skyrush to Storm Runner. What Travis said about similar coasters in similar color schemes is spot on. Why have a red track on Storm Runner and an orange one on Fahrenheit when they're so close to one another? I rate Hershey 2nd after BGW as the most challenging park to navigate.

The acrobatics that some people will go through to find something wrong with part of their "fun" hobby never ceases to amaze me. This thread is a classic in that regard.

Cedar Point is just one giant reddish/orange coaster with different color supports.

Hi

Or Fahrenheit.

Which is orange...and right next to Storm Runner, which is red.

I am proud to call Hersheypark my home park, and I get there are many valid comments that are random about the park. My wife and I always thought. Why remove a rapids ride, water coaster, and flat rides to add a waterpark in the existing park when they own all the land up and down Hersheypark Drive. Makes no sense. Then there were the rumors that the entrance was going to move up by the Claw in the old arena parking lot that is the season passholder lot, and that make sense for people want to go directly to the Waterpark. They shouldve made the waterpark like it's own gate like CP down the street from the park. That makes much more sense for crowd control.

I agree with the people that said about rides being placed randomly, and it took them 12 years to add S&S drop towers that were rumored in the same spot they reside after Storm Runner was installed in 2004. A lot of what they do makes no sense, but it works for them because they have the fan base that if they build it they will come. The GP don't care if they're adding another hyper. It's a new coaster, and a new experience.

Heck we stopped I stopped at Carowinds on Saturday to get my first laps on Fury 325(New since last visit,) on my way back home from Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. What an amazing vacation, and I'd recommend to anyone. Fury is a departure for B&M, and almost sort of similar to what Intamin did on Skyrush. Take the airtime away by an overbank so we just feel the speed and intensity. Great ride. Can't wait for Wildcat to get it's RMC transformation. Mark my words that's coming! :)

Don't take my observation about the park as complaining. Park design has always been a large part of my love for amusement parks.

I still have a blast at Hersheypark. A park's design and ride placement doesn't affect my enjoyment. I've had an extreme interest in park design my entire life. I'm sorry if I offended anyone with what could have been perceived as negativity.

I don't think anyone is jumping through hoops to find something wrong with Hersheypark, or something related to their hobby. Some people are questioning decisions made by the park, and I'm one of those. With more and more varieties of roller coasters being introduced every year, it's a little odd to me that a huge expansion is going to include a roller coaster very similar to the last one they purchased. You can also count me as someone who was perplexed by the choice for the location of the waterpark- a small piece of land in the middle of a bunch of rides with no direct entrance, and not much room for expansion.

Does any of this mean I don't love Hersheypark, or won't ride (and thoroughly enjoy) the new roller coaster? Of course not.

I don't understand the "complaining about complaining". This is a hobby, and no one is under any obligation to automatically love every decision made by every park. I'm a Yankees fan, but am not going to go wild for every trade and free agent signing. It doesn't mean I'm looking for a reason to be down on my team, it simply means I'm passionate enough to have strong opinions. Not every bit of news has to be met with blind faith and boundless support.

When it devolves into saying that a park has too much of "blank" type of ride or too many rides that look like "blank" color, that's a whole lot different than just not loving every decision the park makes. The number of people that care about stuff like that is miniscule and they aren't helping parks pay their bills.

That's why Jeff doesn't make any money off this damn site...
